SakeOne, answer to Where is it Wednesday...somewhere in Forest Grove, OR 10/19/11

Last Saturday, we helped celebrate a birthday with a good friend and his choice was to start out doing some Sake tasting at SakeOne in Forest Grove. I've been there once before..so wasn't shocked when they poured the tastings into wine glasses..instead of the expected little "sake sippers" as I call them.

Before going here the first time, I had only tried sake once when I was in Hawaii, and I gotta say, it wasn't my cup of tea..sake as to me it tasted like gasoline. Well, I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised then..and again on Saturday how really nice tasting these sake's were. We did the flight with paired tastings and enjoyed sipping and tasting away!

SakeOne is the only premium sake brewery in America..and we have it right here in Oregon and just a quick drive from Portland!

This is a blurb from the website from Steve Vuylsteke, President and CEO of SakeOne

“Saké today is much like Oregon Pinot in is early days,” noted Vuylsteke. “You have saké enthusiasts, explorers and hardcore fanatics. Most fanatics are stuck in a “only from Japan” mentality just like wine fanatics were once locked into a “only from Burgundy” when talking about Pinot Noir. The fact is that there is little great saké made in American but it does exist and we are making it here in Oregon. Much like Pinot Noir, craft beer, coffee and tea, people can look to Oregon for premium craft saké. I am honored to join this team and excited about the advancements we’ll make for our own saké let alone saké’s perception in America."

Great mural where ever it is...it seems kind of familiar. I'd have to do a little research. Mmm. I just love this feature. :)

OK, here's my guess!  (I always liked optical illusions!!!)

I guess this is McMenamins Grand Lodge, located at 3505 Pacific Ave in Forest Grove.  It's an inn which has an art gallery that is currently running an exhibit of illusion.

How'd I do?

hmm, well, when I first glanced at those pictures above, they looked like those up/down staircases that are common in illusionary art.  I think my brain must be an optical illusion because I see they are just regular pictures!  Ooops.

Hi Kat...well girl...you sake'd it to me in three! McMinnaman's Grand Lodge is right up the road..and a very cool place in it's own right. The first time we went to check out SakeOne a few years ago (yes...you got it correct!!!) we went there to put some meat on our bones after sipping sake for a bit! Thanks for stopping by and playing! You did good!!

I'll be back later to add some pictures of my last visit to SakeOne and give some more info.

Cindy Lou - first of all great Halloween photo shop fun - very cute. Sorry, you don't scare me. :)

I also like the autumn banner - very nice. And, I wouldn't have guessed this one - I too thought that Sake tasted bad-you've convinced me to give it a whirl. Sounds like it would be fun.

Hi Debb, thanks! I even took away the goulish blood :) One of these sake's actaully was like a desert wine. I was really pleasantly surprised that they tasted so good since my first taste was really icky when I was in Hawaii.
