Grand Junction is a baseball town. We host JUCO the college world series. Supluzio Statium has been the venue for years. This year the statium is being renovated. The renovation will add a new pressbox and hospitility suites and add new seats. The $8.3 million is exspected to completed in May, in time for the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
Grand Junctions support of JUCO spurred the Munforts co owners of the Colorado Rockies to move their minor league team from Casper Wyoming to Grand Junction. There will be 30 games played at home. The schudule has been arrange to accomodate, local high school games, JUCO and CMU games. The stadium will hold 10,000 fans.
Having a professional team here will be a great addition to the town and the economy. The team's name changed from the Casper Ghoasts to the Grand Junction Rockies. The Rockies minor league system has produced many Colorado Rocky starters. The Pioneer League team was bought by the Monfort Investment Group, headed by Colorado Rockies general partners Charlie and Dick Monfort. They bought the team in January with intentions of bring the team to Grand Junction.
