California may be noted for it's earthquakes, but a larger threat is really from wildfires. Given the mild climate in many areas, the biggest danger exists when weather patterns in an area of the state become warm and dry, and vegetation (which is the fuel) has a low moisture content point, so watch out!

Elise Groves, Your Mortgage Retriever, interviews Debra Speer, Account Exec from Property ID Natural Hazard Reports in this 2 minute video about the new tax that is being levied on certain properties in the state to cover the potential cost of fighting those wildfires.

Here in Santa Rosa, in the beautiful northern California wine country, we have plenty of trees and vegetation, but we are also blessed with cool fog from the ocean in the mornings, so our danger is not as great as our neighbors in southern California. But that can all turn in an instant and homeowners are urged to make sure that they protect their homes and property by following some simple preventative measures.

Is your home ready in the case of wildfire?? You can take simple steps such as clearing brush away from your property lines, using natural vegetation, keeping your gutters clean and your chimney with a spark arrestor on it. Don't wait until it's too late!
