Washington Park in Anacortes, WA

One of my favorite parks in Anacortes is Washington Park. Located at the northwest tip of Fidalgo Island, Washington Park is surrounded by several different bodies of water. To the north of the park, Bellingham Channel meets with Guemes Channel. To the west of the park is Rosario Strait. And south is Burrows Bay. Naturally with all of this water, Washington Park must have some public beaches.

Washington Park BeachWashington Park does have 2 public beaches. The first beach is located just inside the park entrance. The park has a public boat launch, picnic area and sandy beach. From this first beach you can see views of Guemes Channel and Guemes Island. The second beach of Washington Park is located off the loop. This beach is located down a walkway off a bluff. The beach does not offer any picnic areas or boat launches, but does have a secluded feel. This is my favorite of the two beaches. It has the feeling of a true Pacific Northwest Beach.

The park in general has a Pacific Northwest feel. The 220 acre park has a 2.2 mile paved loop around the shoreline of the park. In the middle of the loop are walking trails through the heavily forested park. The paved loop is designed for pedestrians, bicycles and cars. Because the road is so narrow and there are a lot of pedestrians the speed limit is 10mph on the loop.

Washington Park Viewpoint, AnacortesAs you reach the end of the Washington Park loop, you will come across a spectacular viewpoint. Located on a high bluff above Burrows Bay you have a view from left to right of; Skyline Marina, Burrows Bay, Burrows Island & Rosario Strait. This viewpoint is one of the greatest views from all of Fidalgo Island. If you come to Washington Park with little time left on your schedule, I recommend that you drive the loop straight to this viewpoint. Make sure that you bring a camera too, because you will regret missing the photo opportunity if you do not.
