Ouray, Colorado is A Year Around Playground

Ouray, Colorado is A year around playground. Ouray, Colorado is known as the Switzerland of American. There's no guessing why. The town is surrounded by tall rugged peaks reaching over 12,000 and 13,000 feet.

Peaks with American FlagThis area is host to world class jeeping, hiking, climbing and biking in the summer. Ouray, Colorado is a gem on the Western Slope. This small mountain town got its start in the mining era in the late 1800s. Tourism keeps it going today. Somehow this town has managed to perserve it's history and you can see this in the buildings. Most of them are restored Victorian style structures. At this time of the year, the town is getting ready for it's winter time activities like cross country skiing, snowmobiling and of course ice climbing. Be sure to take some time to enjoy the Ouray Brewery and Obrien's Pub, and to relax in the hot springs pool. Obrien's has some really great tasting food including an Asian Tuna Salad, Shepard's Pie and a pilled high Turkey Reuben. We enjoyed the Box Canyon Brown Ale at the Ouray Brewery.

Hi, Debbie -- love the photos.  It is indeed an incredible spot during the Summer, for many of us 'zonies' who invade places like Colorado to escape the heat.  Have a great week, Eric

Debbie - I really love the photos, the one on the far right looks like Zermatt!  I guess Colorado really is the Switzerland of America.  I look forward to my children getting older and spending a summer up there.

Kym: Ouray is just one of many special and beautiful places in Colorado. I love the winter season, when things move at a slower pace. Your kids will love the hot springs pool. I prefer the vapor caves.

Eric: Have you eaten at Obrien's Pub? We just had a nice lunch there today. Ouray is really a great place with something for everyone.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Ouray is a special place and it's so beautiful. One afternoon we were soaking in the hot springs, and we watched a small herd of bighorn sheep come down the mountainside. What a sight.
