Placing an image in a post from an iPad...you're not going to like this solution

OK, right up front iPad users. I don’t think you’re going to like this solution because it isn’t elegant, or necessarily easy. It’s more of a technical solution to get around the fact that iPad users can’t place an image in  a post from the Active Rain editor. I’m not sure why that is, and maybe someone from Active Rain can comment on that.

This works better if you happen to have an image that you use in many posts. In this example, its the image of the main Crofton gate. That image tends to resurface for me frequently. The image has to reside on the web. In this case you can see from the html that it’s on my www.RichSellsHomes.com website, which happens to be a wordpress site.

Using HTML in the post, pointed to the image above, which resides on the web, it will display. The image is displayed as a result of a query, and not embedded into the post itself.

The html to do this is:

<center><a href="http://www.richsellshomes.com" target="_self"><img src="http://richsellshomes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/crofton-450-picnik.jpg" alt="Crofton MD Main Entrance"></a></center>

Of course, your image is going to be found on your site, not RichSellsHomes.com. You can certainly copy the HTML above and try it from your iPad in a post, and I'm sure it will work. What the heck, while you're at it write a Crofton, MD post for me ;-)

I told you you weren't going to like it...especially Cheryl. Elegant, NO, but it will work for some instances when you have to place an image from an iPad. Maybe some day, the Active Rain editor will allow us to place images directly that reside in the iPad. After all...Christmas is coming.

Well, at least it's a workable solution even if it ain't pretty! I do most of my blogging on the PC and most of my commenting on the iPAD.

Richard

It looks like it will take some work but it can be done. Apple needs a new app.

Good luck and success.

People are raving right and left about ipads these days,  but they just don't do what they need to do to move a business to them 100%.

Hi Richard, Thanks for posting this. I have a tried a few things and DropBox  works to have the photos in an accessible file.  But we all usually find the way that takes the least effort and using the iPad as a remote server for the desk top is a sure an easy way to upload the photos. I use the LogMeIn Ignition App

Hi Richard - And that's why the iPad isn't a complete total replacement for a laptop or desktop - but it was never meant to be. At least, not yet. In the meantime, we'll just have to rely on kludges like yours to do the best we can. Thanks for figuring this one out - useful answer in the right conditions.

Good evening, Richard. I think that iPads have their purpose. Writing posts for ActiveRain is not one of them tho...
