I am a Realtor in the Boise area and have been considering an SRES designation. My primary reservation is that potential clients might be offended by such a designation, much like many older people resent “senior discounts.” While I am in the age group this designation would target and believe I could better relate to their needs than someone half their age, I still have some reservations. How do you sell yourself to your clientele without making them feel you are either preying on them or otherwise treating them as old people who can’t care for themselves any longer? I am considering the SRES designation - just wanted to ask you guys if the designation has been useful in any way.

I am not one to put a lot of letters after my name (as most people do not know their meaning) but I am considering adding a specialty of 55+ communities to my business model.

My basic philosophy of honesty along with professionalism works in any age group therefore I'm just not sure if I should incur the expense of the designation.

The question is:  has the designation been useful at all?

Thanks in advance for feedback.
