Stacking Up on Books for My Long Winter Nap ... from Ocean City, New Jersey

I try to read for just a short time in the early morning and just before going to bed in the evening.  If I get lucky on occasions, I grab an hour for a bit more serious reading sometime during the week or weekend.  So here is my list of five books to take me into the early winter.  Many more to come I hope.

An agent in our office loaned me this non-fiction book, THE SNOWBALL - Warren Buffett and the Business of Life (2008) by Alice Schroeder.  It's 800 pages, and I'm only in the 200s ... but it reads well and I'm taking my time with this one.  For most non-fiction, I also read a fictional book at the same time.

I just finished Stuart Woods new mystery:  SON OF STONE (2011) which continues the character policeman turned lawyer, Stone Barrington.  Woods is one of my favorite mystery writers ... a good, quick read!

I also started THE GREAT LEADER (2011) by JimHarrison who has written many different types of books ... a couple of good mysteries, Legends of the Fall (made into a film), a series of short stories, etc.  I'm not hitting enough detail here ... he is exceptional, but I don't always read him right away.  I may return this one to the library for a later discovery again.

Instead I selected FEAST OF FOOLS (2011) by James Lee Burke ... another favorite mystery writer ... this time on my Kindle.  Burke writes about Dave Robicheaux, a detective from New Orleans who later moves elsewhere in Louisiana.  A great continuing saga.  Worth checking out.  But this particular book involves Billy Bob Holland who is a sheriff near the border between Texas and Mexico.  I enjoy these books as well.

Finally, I picked up COLUMBUS - THE FOUR VOYAGES by Laurence Bergreen who also wrote OVER THE EDGE OF THE WORLD about Magellan's voyage around the world even thought he did not finish it.  I'm hoping to get to this one in November.

Want to share a few good books ... let me know.     dap
