...is not only prudent, but makes the most business sense in an unsure world.
I had a conversation with my broker today about an agent that had quietly let her know that he is leaving for another firm that he feels better suits his business model. No malice, no hidden agenda, just a sound business decision. But, is this decision permanent or for now?
My interesting perspective allowed me to watch two people act like the credible business people I know them to be. The agent had already given me a heads up as to the what and why, but his core focus was not offending or alienating our broker who has done her best to support him in his time with our firm. My broker, too, was focused on the bigger picture. Truth is, his business model is highly specialized and she simply could not match what the other firm offered. It was not a lack of want on her part, just a lack of differing goals.
Bottom line, neither burned a bridge that both might need down the road. The really cool thing about my office is that the most important piece of the puzzle is credible, supportive relationships. My broker screens prospective agents very closely to make sure that the prospects personality traits will benefit the entire office, rather than just her bottom line. She really understands that a short eye could do serious damage to the long term investment she hs already made in her team.
Both sides acted like responsible adults, consequently, the opportunity for future business still exists between them and an experienced ear is still a call away for my friend. I continue to be amazed that the message is always there if you take the time to hear it. In short, do unto others, or they WILL do unto you as it suits them.
