FULL SIZED CANDY BARS for Halloween!!

By

Happy Halloween everyone!  I went to the Giant and picked up full sized candy bars for the Trick or Treaters.

Do you remember the days when you went trick or treating?  I do and I can't help but wish I could have gone out with the kids tonight too.  I remember the family that always gave out the full sized candy bars- Burt and Grace Charbonneau.  Every year they gave out those candy bars and guess what?  It was the first house we all visited.  And I'm 42 and still remember who gave out the best candy!  What about you?

Which, in my sugar induced high, led me to think about the corelation between full-sized candy bars and REALTORS.  Each and every day, I strive to be the REALTOR that the people in my life think of when they have real estate needs.  And I would also like to think that they will remember me fondly in 30 years.

So, my question to all of the consumers out there is, what has your REALTOR done to set themselves apart in your eyes?

And to all of my REALTOR friends, what do you think makes people remember you?

Oh, by the way, I'd love to hear about the full sized candy bar family from your childhood.

Great post Nancy! I'm sharing it with my own clients to encourage them all to be that full-size candy bar giver!

I think I may be a little young to remember the days before the "fun-size" candy bars, but I do remember a few houses in my neighborhood that gave out rolls of pennies, and when I was a little kid I thought it was the coolest (maybe only 25-50 cents worth, but it was still a lot when you were 6).  I also remember the house that gave out toothbrushes.

Nancy: I remembered the full size candy bar house when I went trick or treating as a kid. The last couple of years I decided that I was going to be known as the full size candy bar house. This year I gave out 82. Next year I need to purchase at least 60 more. I had to turn out my porch light.

We took the kids out tonight and got loads of candy but not 1 single full size candy bar! :-(
We still had a blast and enjoyed the spooky tricks and treats!  :-)

I remember going out as a kid and almost every year someone was giving out the full size candy. The past two years going out with my two kids, we haven't seen one full sized bar. Wonder why...

I think it might be because Walmart and other stores offer such good deals on the bags of small candy. One thing I did notice was some people gave the kids like 4-5 of the little bars, which is technically equal to one big bar :)

Our old office was on the town trick or treat trail, we would get hundreds of kids stopping by. Our last year at that location we went all our, loads of candy, coffee, cider and cookies for the adults and a "haunted house for sale" listing sheet. Our office was decorated to the max and we had a great time!

Hi Nancy,  Congratulations on your feature...what a "treat" for you!  I actually hand out assorted full sized candy bars and had one child actually state...Is this all you have?  I almost fell over laughing!

Back in the day....in our neighborhood, we had one elderly gentleman who passed out a small goody bag with different candies...every year this was the home we had to be sure to stop at.  :-)

For the last few years I haven't had any trick or treaters, most of the kids head into town where there are more homes and easy distances between.  I always have candy, just in case.  One of my nicest memories of Halloween was when we purchased our first home, we moved from a large town  to a small little area which was basically one street of homes in the middle of cornfields.  Our daughter at the time was just little and we decided to take her with us back to our friends in Ann Arbor to trick or treat with their kids.  I didn't want to be the mean new neighbor who punked out on giving candy, so I set up a bowl on the front porch full of candy options with a sign saying I was sorry that we couldn't be there, but please take some candy.  I wondered how long the candy would last, thinking chances were it would be gone after the first group got hold of it.  Was I surprised to arrive home and find the bowl still half full.  In the larger town we had left we would not have been shocked if the bowl itself was gone along with the chair it sat upon.

I still remeber the full size candy bars.  The other thing that I remeber best is my grandmother always being so excited when we got there and she would act like she didn't know who we were.  I remember one time my older brother dressed up like a woman and my grandmother REALLY didn't know him.  That was the best year ever.

It makes me remember when I knew exactly which house it was in our neighborhood that gave out full size candy bars!  It was the first house we would hit every year!  The last year we lived in town, I bought full size bars to hand out, I wanted to be that house.  But we moved to the country and haven't seen a trick or treater for years.

Proves that folks who are NOT "cookie cutters" will always be remembered.  As a Realtor with over twenty years of fullt-ime experience, I take great pride in providng Full Sized candy bars...so to speak.  I am always availble for each and every client and they know that if I don't call them back within two hours I am probably dead.  It's super to now be able to provide real estat services to the children of my former clients.  Whenever you can state you work mainly form referrals.....you are a full-sized candy bar in my books!

The post about the home made pop corn balls and donuts -- have a feeling that if we gave kids today home made anything that the parents would throw it out. We have gotten to the place where we all have to be worried that a weirdo put something into a non-packaged and sealed item. Sad to say.

There were no full sized candy bars in my neighborhood growing up. It was all about speed and number of houses hit. The days of dodging teenagers stealing bags and really scary pranks are over. My kids go to "safe street" and hit half a dozen homes on our street. We have so much candy it could feed an entire elementary school.

Quality vs. Quantity.  Do what you do better than the rest and you wont't have to keep piling on the crap.  One King Sized Snickers Bar is more satisfying than a back full of bit sized candy.

As the cool house in the neighborhood, full sized bars are the standard for the neighborhood kids.
