Sarasota Chalk Festival Returns Tuesday, November 1 to Monday, November 7. One of the most beautiful, creative and awe-inspiring art events of the year, the Sarasota Chalk Festival (also known as Avenida de Colores) returns to Sarasota next week.
This much anticipated festival has evolved in a few short years to become one of, if not the, most important street art festivals in the world. "We really do have the most renowned artists in the world attending in one location for the first time ever in history. That's quite noteworthy, not only for Sarasota, but internationally." said festival founder Denise Kowal. "The artists that are here from the Netherlands and Italy are talking about how everybody all over the world is talking about Sarasota right now."
The Sarasota Chalk Festival will take place in the historic Burns Square area of downtown Sarasota on Pineaple Avenue and surrounding streets. Over one hundred thousand visitors are expected to attend. This year the Sarasota Opera will perform selections from "Madame Butterfly" on a chalk artwork by artist Michael Kirby. Another artist featured this year will be Kurt Wenner who is known for his 3-D pavement art, http://www.kurtwenner.com/street.htm
I will be posting photos of the art as it is created next week. You can also check out the Sarasota Chalk Festival's website at http://www.chalkfestival.com/ .
