Spice Is Nice!
It's that time of year again when our spice usage goes way up!
It seems to start with chili season. The cooler weather inspires us to create a little heat in our food, such as steamy, spicy, full-flavored chili, complete with chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, and garlic powder, among other spices.
Then it continues with the pumpkin and squash recipes; after all, what is a pumpkin soup, pie, or bread without cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or allspice?
And, of course, we start looking forward to Thanksgiving, with all the above-named pumpkin spices, plus parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.
My spice shelf used to be relatively small, but each year, I seem to need more spices. I have become very fond of Moroccan and Middle Eastern dishes, so now I must have coriander, turmeric, and saffron too. I also love Asian-inspired dishes so I have to have ginger, sesame seeds, and plenty of sesame oil.
I also like to make spiced nuts to enjoy for the holidays or to give as gifts; here are some of my favorite recipes for healthy spiced nuts. You will definitely need a good supply of spices for these recipes.
Fortunately, The Spice Mill is located at 191 Adams Street in Manchester CT (right next to Adams Mill Restaurant). The Spicemill has a wonderful selection of spices at amazing prices. You can find just about any spice you need there; the spices come in various sizes--smaller for the individual consumer and larger for commercial businesses. Of course, they also have nuts, chili sauces (many different kinds), sesame oil, gift baskets, gift certificates, and speciality products.
Now is the time to stock up on all those spices, and The Spice Mill is the place to go to. They are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00. And if you can't get there in person, you can always order online. For more information, contact them at 860-645-3853.
