Good job of explaining why you need a competent local Realtor looking out for your best interests. Thanks.
Hi Suzanne-Thank you. This was more of a vent as I made the post members only. Thank you for dropping in!
Brenda, First, I believe you are correct giving criticism to the agents referred to in the stories you related. Second, too many people use the word REALTOR without the correct spelling (all caps) or the trademark required... thank you for including the trademark and forgive me for not knowing how to include it in this forum. However, the first question I have when thinking about your story as described is this... It doesn't sound like you had honest to goodness REALTORS. It sounds like they were only real estate agents who needed REALTOR ethics training.
Brenda, there are many buyers in the market that don't appreciate the value of a qualified representative to guide them through the process. To call oneself a Realtor, one need only have a current license and pay the dues. To be considered a professional, you need to act and work like one and make your clients know that as well.
This should be a public post. Educating the public on getting proper representation is an ongoing process, and giving them examples of poor representation is another part of the process. Being the voice of reason speaks to the type of agent they should be calling.
Hi Craig-Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I looked it up and it is acceptable to use Realtor® as long as at least the first initial is capatilized and the ® is present. Not acceptable to have all caps and no ® and not acceptable to have all lower case even with the ®. However, you made me look and it looks like I am out of compliance in a few other areas that I need to take care of. Thanks :)!
Hi Ed-I may just change it to a public post so folks get an idea. I don't want to make Realtors(r) look bad though. I know that not every Real Estate agent is perfect, and in fact, there are some who we know are not very professional, but either way, I don't want to give us a bad name :)!
Hi Brenda. You are right to point out that some of this is on the Buyers too. They really do need to do some research into the process and into the Realtor they hire.
Hi Carol Ann-Hiring the the right Realtor® is so important. Thank you for stopping by today :)!
When a prospect calls to see a home I always ask if they are working with another agent. You would be surprised how quiet the phone gets on occasion. Some prospects will throw their agent under the bus at the drop of the hat.
Hi Doug-No doubt...this is why it is so important to have one of them come to Jesus talks with your clients. Take the second story...these folks didn't have a problem with calling any Realtor(r) to do the job...and "didn't realize" they were causing issues until after they were going to drop their current Realtor(r) who finally had a discussion with them. Best to get that done first thing so that they understand.
Hmmm . . . what's this thing you call "phone book"??
Make it public! And underscore that part of the onus is that buyers picked the WRONG agent. Good post. I suggested.
Hi Carla...I may just have to do that. They most certainly did pick the wrong agent...at least the first one did. Buyers need to have the process explained to them and understand that their Realtor® is there for them for more than just opening the door to see the home. Thanks for the suggest :)!
I am sure that lesson was well learn by these buyers. It is interesting when sellers have to sign on an paper agreement with an agent, they are more choosy than the buyers.
Hi Eileen-No doubt...both sellers and buyers should be choosy in who their Realtor® is. Thanks for stopping by.
Hey Brenda, cute costume. Have a great Halloween! I'm w/Doug.. one of the first questions I ask is whether or not they're working w/another agent.
Glad to see you made this a public post. I think that the bar is pretty low with what the public expects of a REALTOR® which is why they put up with this nonsense. Glad to see you are out there setting a higher standard.
Hi Chris-Thank you )! I think they expect a lot....they just aren't aware of what they should expect, :)!
Hi Brenda! Cuuuuuuteee! For a moment I thought you were sporting an Anna Bannana suit! Had to stop and see!
Hi Cathy-Yep...goin trick-or-treatin in it :)! LOL! Thanks for stopping by!
