Palm Springs Valley, Calif.; more than just sunshine and golf! But, hey, isn't that enough??? For MANY visitors, seasonal residents and even those of us that live here year round, it sure sounds like enough..but there is so much more.
The Palm Springs Valley covers a lot of ground, so when you land in your city of choice, be it Palm Springs proper, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, La Quinta or further Easterly, you owe it to yourself to take a drive. The Eastern Palm Springs Valley, (also referred to as The Coachella Valley) is a different world than the down town area. As you drive Hwy 111 East, you start to see the changes. Take Washington St. South until it dead ends at the entry to The Tradition Golf Course, and turn left. Just keep driving East.
You'll pass the Eldorado Polo Club with it's 13 fields. Every season (Dec.-April) welcomes approximately 1,000 horses and 150 players..and their friends and families! Eldorado is right across the street from the entry gates of one of the most prestigious private golf clubs in the desert, The Madison Club. Drive another 1/2 mile East and you are at the Empire Polo Club (entry on Monroe). This Events Club hosts the Internationally renowned Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and again..the entry is directly across from another famous private golf club, The Plantation.
Keep heading East through Thermal, past the rolling fields with horses grazing, or crops growing and you can really start to feel the rural flavor of the Eastern Coachella Valley. Many horse training facilities are located here, and horse trails meander next to the streets all the way through La Quinta..quite a site! Date Farms, Citrus Groves, Acres of green, leafy vegetables stretch out for miles. Cross old Hwy 86 in Thermal and you are at the HITS horseshow entry. This is a Class "A" horseshow that brings in hundreds of international level hunter/jumper competitors every season.
Polo Games and Jump offs are open to the public and held nearly every Sunday through the season. Golf? Lots of it! Sunshine? Unbelievably warm winter months. Equestrian Events? Loads of them! Music and Arts? Check on that front too.
