The new (and only) Spokane Trader Joe's opened today and I didn't go! Imagine that! Here I am, a self-proclaimed foodie who has befriended every non-GMO, anti-Monsanto, sustainable agriculture, support-a-local-farmer group on Facebook. I read EVERY label on EVERY piece of food that I feed my family. I actually emailed Trader Joe's about a month ago to find out if their products are GMO-free. * I frequent the Spokane Farmers' Market and grow whatever I can in my backyard garden. And, yet, in spite of my love for good food, I missed this once in a lifetime opportunity! Sigh. . . .just couldn't bring myself to fight the crowds.
Thank, Kathy! I am looking forward to visiting it after the furor dies! :)
Karol - I actually don't think chuck is two bucks anymore, but it does still seem to be a hot item!
Good Evening Valrie:
Greal Localism Post...and I like your idea. Trader Joe is a pretty decent outfit...Good Luck!
Somebody has been peeking at my shopping list. I am going to the one in Eugene Oregon tommorrow!
Albuquerque has one Trade Joes and another one is under way. We are excited to have one coming to our side of town. Traffic can be a bear in the Q
Valerie I have been hearing about trader Joe but I have yet to visit one. I am sure the bag giveaway will have takers.
Have a great weekend.
Rob - Is there something special that you go there for? It has been a long time since I visited a Trader Joe's .. . looking forward to doing business there!
John - It is always nice to have the stores you love close by!
Jennifer - Do they have them out East yet, or are they mainly a West Coast phenomenon? I don't know about those bags having takers but can't blame a girl for trying! :)
I have never heard of Trader Joe's! Okay, now I am curious. I have to google it! :)))
Hi Valerie,
Love Trader Joes too - it's one of our regular stops. As is Whole Foods, I too am careful to eat healthy foods. I like your idea - we use Two Buck Chuck red and white for our sauces. :)
Joni - Me neither until I hit the West Coast! It has actually been years since I have been in one and that was before I became so aware of what is in the food I eat . . . .will be interesting to visit with my new perspective!
Debb - I remember years ago when Two Buck Chuck won some wine tasting competition and really upset the wine snobs. I tend to not like "good" wines as they are not sweet enough for me, but it would be great stuff to use for cooking!
Love the post and that Trader Joes is getting closer and closer to the Tri Cities!
They have a Curry and a Masala skillet sauce that is great with chicken added and served over rice!
I am surprised there is no Trader Joe's in the Tri Cities yet. That is a booming area!
Thanks, Rob! I will have to give it a try!
You need to get ready to fight the crowds for a while. Trader Joes is always a busy place in Albuquerque! Like I said earlier so glad we're getting another one maybe it will take some of the crowd load off the one we now have.
Thanks for the warning, John . . .passed by yesterday and it is causing a lot more traffic in the area. I am sure the other businesses in the area are loving the added exposure!
Hi Valerie. The only thing that kept me away is 2883 miles and the Pacific Ocean.....currently in Honolulu. I know, I know. Tough duty. I'll be shopping at Joe's as soon as I return. Experienced 2 new things on this visit. Halloween is really a big deal in Waikiki! And the Saturday farmers market on the campus of Kapi'olani Community College was as crowded as K-mart during a blue light special. Flowers, fruits, vegetables, chocolates, cooked & raw seafood, homemade sauces, jams/jellies, music, iced beverages and much, much more! Not to be miissed! A foodies paradise. ..... And of course bring your own shopping bags.......Trader Joes or not. : )
Oh, Jack . . . I am SO jealous! The Spokane Farmers' Market just had their last weekend of the season, although they are going to send me an email so I can do a last order right before Thanksgiving!
I am so jealous that you have a Trader Joes! This may be a dumb question, but I don't know what GMO is. -Kasey
Kasey - I know this comment is a little late in answering your question, but I am going to post a link here anyway for anyone else that needs information! http://www.saynotogmos.org/ . . .will email it to you as well!
I wish we could entice buyers and sellers like that here in Oregon, but we aren't allowed to say we will give you something if you buy or sell through me.
