Just Because A Post Is Featured Does Not Make It True

WOW. For those who know me I RARELY ever reblog a post unless I really love it or find there is a need to bring more exposure to it. I have written appx 300 posts and reblogged only about 6-8 if that gives an idea. I caught this post on a reblog and LOVED it! Very true, I see these very same things and wanted to share it. Also when you see where it originates you have to go to their site and give them a shout out on their blog post for passing the 1MM mark!!!

Great post and worthy

Just because a post is on the feature board on ActiveRain does not mean the information in the post is correct or true. activerain featured posts

Posts get featured in several ways but NOT  one of those ways is one where ActiveRain staff are going through every post and verifying all the facts making sure it is all fact or opinion and that there is no misrepresentation of facts or errors in statements of fact. There is just not enough time in the day to do that and not enough staff members at ActiveRain Corp. to be able to handle such an expectation.

People who like a post you wrote click the suggest button on your post to alert the staff at AR that there may be a post worthy to be featured.

Then there are those who game that system. There are of course, as is to be expected in any group or community those that band together and as a group click the suggest buttons on each other posts.

When ActiveRain first started they did not have the employees who could be assigned the featuring task so they had members volunteer to be moderators. The moderators had feature authority. Of course because moderators are human, there were situations and accusations of some of the moderators 'playing favorites'. This practice ended and then the staff primarily were in charge of featuring posts.

The staff get accused of playing favorites as well. But as I have been here since 2007 watching all of this I see that it is more so the groups who click the suggest button over and over again on the same people within their groups. The staff is caught in the middle because there is no clear evidence that this happens. The staff also have other duties during the day besides featuring posts so to have to research where all the suggests are coming from is also time consuming. But AR can see who suggests who.

Of course there are great writers who are featured often because they are good writers with content that is valuable and opinions that are worthy of sharing.

So when you read a post that is on the feature board on AR- just because it is there- remember that the facts contained therein have not been verified.

Just because something is written- does not make it true.

There are a lot of posts and featured posts with incorrect advice on how to do a short sale and who can do a short sale, etc.
There are a lot of posts and featured posts about how to run your business, what to do as an agent, what is ethical or not, etc.
There are a lot of posts and featured posts about SEO, internet marketin, social media, you name it, that is not exactly factual or verifiable.

Remember before you take someone's word as truth, verify the facts. That includes me. Don't just believe what I say, check it out, do your due diligence.

One way you can find out whether something is working that a post tells you to do is to go ahead and ask the writer, how is that technique working for them? How many houses have they sold because of applying that technique or action plan. Have they gotten any real people to sell a house to or list a house for because of something they are telling you to do?

Always go back to: How's that working for you? Remember, don't blame the AR staff for posts that are not true or verified.

David - interesting reading.  I admit that I am not one who sits around trying to decide if everything is fair or not so I have not given much thought to some of the points.  I find it difficult to think that some groups or individuals get together and try to game the system...but it may happen - just not to big of a concern to me.  Regarding the issue of everything that is featured being true...I can see this point.  My thought regarding that is if it works for me - I consider using it.  What works for some people does not work for another - like marketing.  Anything regarding short sales I would carefully check it out prior to using it as it is an ever changing market.  Soooo, having said all that, I am thankful for a feature when I get it, I love reading the features of other AR members, and then there are some features I wonder exactly why they were featured.  All in all...I am loving reading in ActiveRain.

BTW - nice reminder to all of us...to read with caution...everything you read may not be true.

David. I saw this earlier and thought the same.

Just because it is in print does not make it so.

Homework and some detective poking are always in order.

Enjoy the day

David- Thanks for the re-blog.

Barbara- There are folks on AR and all blogging communities that are not making money or don't have to make money or complain about not making money. There are folks who do spend most of their day in a community such as this and do make a clique and do create groups to accomplish certain tasks. I belong to mastermind groups where we work to the betterment of the group but we don't spend our days clicking each other's suggest buttons. Katerina

Reminds me of a catch phrase supposedly said on the TV series Dragnet. "Just the facts ma'am".  Or as my grand mother used to say, "Take everything spoken or written down with a grain of salt".

To those people who are gaming the system, I say, "Get a life!" Sad but true. I'm too busy to pay attention to whose doing it and don't really want to know.
