C'mon, Burke County NC, We Can Fill These Shelves!

                                                Canned Food

Call it ignorance of the problem, call it lethargy, call it the economy, but all three major food pantries in Burke County NC are low or out of food to feed our neighbors in need. Understanding this, the Morganton Main Street Office is sponsoring a Food Drive during the Halloween Spooktacular and Trick or Treating event  on Monday, October 31, 2011.

There is a  food donation truck parked on S. Green Street in downtown Morganton, beside  Courthouse Square and across from Marquee Cinemas. Residents will be able to drive up, drop off donations, and drive on.

Rising to the challenge, individual REALTORs of Real Living Carolina Property's downtown Morganton and Lake James offices will be bringing canned goods into their office at 121 E. Union Street - and the company will match each donated item, doubling the contribution! They will also be staffing the food donation truck from 3 - 5 pm

The following non-perishable food items are needed:

•     baked beans

•     carrots

•     chick peas

•     greens

•     great northern beans

•     lima beans

•     mandarin oranges

•     meats

•     mixed fruit

•     navy beans

•     pears

•     pineapple

•     pinto beans

•     pork n beans

•     tomatoes

•     yams

•     Dried beans and/or rice

Spooktacular and a Food Drive?  What a great way to celebrate Halloween!

Debbe: Food pantries all over the country are running short - much earlier in the month and every month. I hope you fill the truck to the brim to help Morganton residents who need a little help. We must take care of our own.  Wondeful post!

Thanks, Anne. To tell you the truth, this is the very least we can do - and I'd love to inspire other REALTORS  - near and far - to do the same! "But for the grace of God... ."

I hope the food pantries fill up.  There are so many hungry people that are on food stamps and don't have enough money to feed their families.  It is a great time for all of us to chip in and help.

So true, Jennifer! I'm afraid with the cold weather coming so early this year that some folks are going to have to choose between heat and food. Let's help them out with the food, whenever possible. Are your food kitchens in NYC experiencing the same thing?

Thanks for your comment, and for caring!
