If you are considering replacing the carpet in a room that has outside access, consider placing tile, instead of carpet, at the entryway. There are two very good reasons!
Carpet collects moisture that come in on shoes. Also, when you open the door on a rainy day moisture also comes in and lands on the carpet. There is only one place for the moisture to go. Into the wood sub flooring! With a tile entryway the moisture will sit on top of the tile and evaporate. And you will not have to be concerned with replacing the sub floor at the entryway in the future.
The second reason is, tile is much easier to keep clean. Dirty carpet requires a lot of effort to clean.
Note: A small rug placed on top of the tile is easy to 'hang up' to dry and you can clean it by throwing it in the washer!
