We are very fortunate for the past eight years to have the best neighbors in the world!! We want to tell you what a miracle it is to have such wonderful neighbors in Sunset Beach, NC.
When we first moved to Sunset Beach, NC we didn't get involved with our neighbors. It was only the wave when you saw the neighbors kind of relationship because we were working and busy settling in.
We decided to buy a boat and one day decided we would venture onto the IntraCoastal Waterway up to Topsail Island to meet Frank's nephew and his family for lunch. This was our first big trip with the boat and we thought we knew it all.
On the way we hit our first sand bar...where the heck did that come from. Thank goodness a boat was passing by and helped us off. We did make it to Topsail for lunch, a little late, but as the day flew by we decided it was time to head back.
Somewhere along the way we made a wrong turn and ended up in a military area with a boat approaching us with guns aimed at us demanding us to follow them. They escorted us to their dock and interrogated us for quite a while. When they finally decided they no longer felt we were a threat, they released us and said we could leave. The nerve of them, holding us hostage, threatening us we could have been shot for entering their waters.
By now dusk had passed and it was rapidly becoming dark. We made another wrong turn and hit another sandbar. Dark, stuck in the sandbar with no boats in sight we were in big trouble. Somehow we managed to rock out of the sandbar but the engine wouldn't start. Thunder and lightening started and now we started to get worried.
We had our cell phones and called locally for help. They asked our destination approximately, and said we needed to call someone else because we were out of their territory. Seriously, we are in trouble, who cares whose territory we are in...
Thank goodness the next phone call said they would be able to help us. Two hours later the tow boat showed up to help. They towed us at about an inch an hour to the closest port which was obviously not where our car was or anywhere near where we lived.
As we were being towed we wondered who could we call to come pick us up at the wee hours of the morning. We really didn't know anyone in the area except our neighbors across the street. We decided they were the only ones we could call. The miracle was when our neighbors answered the phone and told us they were worried where we were and noticed we never came home!!
We called them, woke them up at 12:30 am and explained our dilemma. To make matters worse we needed to borrow money from them to pay cash for the tow. Talk about embarassing moments. To this day we still laugh about it, but we knew it was a miracle our neighbors were able to help us out in our time of need.
We love our neighbors like family and have remained close friends since always helping each other out whenever necessary.
Miracles do happen for a reason and we are so grateful we are so fortunate to have the best neighbors in the world!!
They say the two best days of owning a boat are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell the boat. This is the truth!! Trust us!! We no longer have our boat!!
Our Miracle is Having The Best Neighbors in the World!! Make friends with your neighbors, you never know when you may need each other for an emergency!!
