My Other Vice ...

Okay, I'm a Political Junkie.

True story: When I quit the Mortgage Biz because the company I had worked with went under and it was decided to try to melt into a Mortgage Banker whose level of service reminded me of treating jock itch with sandpaper, I walked out.  But I needed some sort of income while I tried to find the next way I could afford a roof, four walls, dinner, and the the occasional fluffer.  So I decided to work as a cashier at a freaking Grocery Store for a hot moment.  After one month, the gig almost turned me Republican.  I suppose seeing folks using food stamps to buy junk food and cell phones paid for by the Government who don't even say thank you after you just checked them out and bagged their groceries may do that to a lad.

Some thoughts:

I loathe the system but love the exchange of ideas.  That's the beauty of America.  The system is screwed up to an extent, but the exchange of ideas is unparalleled.  And then I hear something that twists my nut in the wrong direction ..

When I heard today that Herman Cain is now (shocking, the timing and all) being accused of sexual assault ... you know what I say ... I hope whomever he allegedly sexually assaulted ends up in a Dustin Diamond Sex tape so they can really have their reputation and life screwed up.  Seriously, you wait until now?  If someone can rationalize that for me, please do.  Otherwise, just another attack by those who don't want the guy to become President or an errant attempt by someone to garner sympathy for something that they may have voluntarily bended over for.  I was molested by Margaret Thatcher, can I get my money now too?

It is a wonder to me how folks on the right are treating the Occupy Wallstreet deal the same as folks on the left treated the Tea Party.  They act like one bowel movement of society is better than the other.  To me, both uprisings have legit gripes and legit extremists who I wouldn't bring to dinner no matter how much I hated my Mother-In-Law.  But don't lose your critical thinking skills over it.  If you are a Liberal, fine.  If you are a Conservative, fine.  I'm a Pittsburgh Steeler Fan and can fully recognize when the other team makes a good play.  That is the NFL and this is Life.  Both are relevant.  Your opinion has been considered but is not yet fact.  And that's what fun about playing the game and living this life.

This one is personal.  I've been called neutral, not taking a stand and appeasing all sides to try to reach a common ground.  Fact is, I do take sides.  But the sides I take aren't always the left or the right because I firmly believe in Gay Marriage and that Pro-Life means Pro-Life, even if you live in Texas.  The reason I consider myself less than spectacular in the eyes of the beholder is ... I'm not an advocate of hypocrisy.  Most of the folks I read here spouting it or promoting it in some way or another.  "Individual Rights" ... right.

Unless it disagrees with your belief(s) ...

My other vice is I read too much Fran Gaspari and not enough Shark Dude.  One I thought was a moderate who turned out to be rather extreme and the other turned out to be pretty extreme for being a moderate.

Lessons learned.

Ok, seriously now.  I couldn't care less what someone else's political leaning is - REALLY I DON'T!!!  This is America and everyone has a right to their own opinion and that is all it is - their opinion NOT a statement of fact!  As for my own opinions, they're been under somewhat of a metamorphosis for the past three years.

Not sure if this condition has resulted from my environment or not but it is what it is.  Maybe it's just my age and I've finally reached that point in life where I just don't give a rats patootie what someone thinks of me, especially someone I couldn't care less about.  Whatever it is, it also doesn't fit into a little box anymore (where it did for a very long time).

I used to be far more conservative than I am now. I always thought that people leaned more right as they got older, but I tend to zig when others zag.

GREAT stuff Jason.

I am still a political junkie, too.  But, I am trying to keep my thoughts to myself these days.  Especially after someone read a REBLOG, for G's sake, and told me to shove my stars and stripes.  Get a life, dude.

The story may be new, but the alleged actions of Cain were not...the settlement took place years ago, the press just found out about it, and when you're in the national spotlight, people tend to start digging.

Personally, I'm not too worried about Cain's supposed inappropriate behavior; what I find amusing though is that he had 10 days to come up with an explanation before the story was printed and then, within a 6 hour period went from"I have no idea what you're talking about" to a minute-by-minute accounting of the incident.

But more worrisome about Cain is his latest "China is trying to get nuclear technology" gaff which is a little bit more alarming than making unseemly comments to women.

Jason,

There are few advocates of hypocrisy only practitioners! Hypocrites delude themselves, too.

Jason - I am a political news whore. I watch left and right news programs. Online, I follow left, right, progressive and libertarian news outlets. I then have a daily dose of Alex Jones to check up on the latest political conspiracy theories.

"And then I hear something that twists my nut in the wrong direction .."

Is there even a correct direction?? Jennifer must have some great talent.

Regarding Herman Cain, I was thinking "Only 2?". I would think a guy like that would have a bunch of women come after him once he hits the political arena. I'm personally concerned over his ties with the Federal Reserve and his ignorance of economic and foreign policy.

Regarding the Tea Party and OWS gathering, here is an example what both movements have in common:

"This one is personal. "

If you have to put a label on yourself, then the Libertarian label seems to fit you. However, there are differences in opinion on abortion and death penalty within our group.

I heart Satar.

And I need to update my stance on the whole Cain thing.  I didn't know that this was something from the past when I wrote this.  So, another reason I have to loathe certain media outlets.

Sardi - can't picture you as a republican, agree with Satar, you would be a good libertarian (small l). We have our differences but overall tend towards individual freedom and responsibility. That does not necessarily deny the need of certain specific people requiring either temporary or permanent help due to unfortunate and uncontrollable causes (not including lifestyle choices as so many seem to feel deserve taxpayer support).

On the Cain issue, I have a hard time believing that so much is being made of so little, unnamed sources are accusing Cain of unspecified sexual harassment (of a non-sexual nature no less). He needs to put a better team behind him. He's got the money rolling in now, he needs to spend it wisely, including on professional people behind his campaign.

Saunders - Agreed.  He is playing with the big boys and gals and the quality of his team can help make or break him.  I still think he is a long shot but we shall see.

Hold on - Cain himself admitted that the National Restaurant Association (a lobbying group he headed) paid someone a years severance to go away.  Really, I could care less about the "alleged" sexual harassment, it's the "I have no idea what you're talking about" and then later in the same day he gives a fairly accurate accounting of exactly what happened.

BTW, the Cain campaign is blaming the Rick Perry campaign for divulging the information.

And no response about the China thing?

Jason, even I FROM TEXAS believe Fran Gaspari is required reading for getting another viewpoint. With all the hypocrisy and opinions as you stated can't we EVENTUALLY get to some facts? I know people have their stands on tough grey issues and differences are ok, but some things like the sexual harassment issue need to be put out into the light of day as TRUE or FALSE. Maybe we will never know, and that is the answer.

Yeah but did you miss this message from Rick Perry I actually think all politicians these days have the exact same message!

And I really miss Shark Dude...

Saunders - Very true.

Karl - Funny, heard that he was blaming the Perry Campaign and then I saw some Conservative Pundits that were blaming it on the Dems.  Sigh.

Gary - Don't get me wrong, I dig Fran.  I just don't think he is as middle of the road as he would like to think.

Russell - I actually felt bad for Rick last evening.  I'd rather butt slide across sharp tacks than vote for the man, but I still felt bad for him.

This post was so fun to read!  Thanks!  I, too, can respect a good play.  I also enjoy the exhange of ideas.  I just love debates.  Find a topic and I'll be there to debate.  Truth is, I usually just pick the underdog side, because I don't want the other to monopolize.

You’ll be fully recognizing a lot of good plays by the other team on December 8.  Go Browns.  I enjoyed reading your blog, good stuff.  I’m voting for the fiscally conservative, socially liberal, state’s rights, individual liberty, independent guy.  I can dream, can’t I?

So it looks like I was right. More than two women and now he is out. Hopefully the people who supported Cain because they identified with him for not being a politician, will now vote for Ron Paul.
