Chimney Gulch Trail near Golden

Nestled beside the banks of Clear Creek, below a mountain canyon, Golden is one of the oldest and most historic cities along the Front Range. To the east, two flat-topped mesas, North and South Table mountains, separate Golden from Denver’s sprawling western suburbs, allowing it to retain its historic charm and small-town size. This trail is in the Jefferson County Open Space trail system, and is connected to the Windy Gap Trail and Park. The gulch gets its name from fast-moving wildfires that have occurred on the site. The trail climbs 2000' in 2.5 miles from Highway 6 to the summit at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. The trail is moderate to advanced and passes through grass prairie and pine forest, crossing streams at several places. The trail can be icy in winter and is often cool in summer. The trail is popular among hikers and mountain bikers. Enjoy a hike in the morning  then head down to town for a late lunch or early dinner.Make sure to visit your local outdoor retailer to pick up a guide to this beautiful trail and any other essentials you might need.

Access Points
Lookout Mountain Road west of US 6 and roadside parking on US 6 eastbound from State Highway 58.
