 YouTube Thursday - The First Offical - 11/3/2011

A few months ago, I posted a series to help you create more interesting videos. Music - How to Set the Stage for your Videos. At that time, Vblogger group founder Pamela St. YouTube ThursdayPeter, suggested that I start a YouTube Thursday. Naturally, since video is something we should all be using in our marketing efforts, it’s a great idea.


Facebook Friday has certainly helped many of us  build "likes" on our Fan Pages, therefore, in the spirit of helping us become more successful with our YouTube channels, this is the first official “YouTube Thursday.” It would be terrific to get your support. Plus, I'm hoping it gives more AR members the nudge they need to get started with video production.


YouTube ThursdayI will feature three VBloggers a week - (join the group so I can find you). Please subscribe to each member's video channel, and hopefully in the spirit of cooperation, they will subscribe in kind. Viewing one another’s videos can be a source of inspiration. You can learn what works, and sometimes, what doesn’t work.


In addition, it would be great if we could use this weekly post (in comments) as a forum to discuss video production. There are so many issues to consider such as length, topic, music selections, branding efforts and entertainment value. What do you think works?



It seems appropriate to feature, as the first Subscriber Channel, the head of the VBloggers group, Pamela St. Peter. This video is a great tutorial from Pamela. She teaches well, with a calm and easy style, and produces a variety of community videos.

 Next up, my pal Richard Yates, who has been a huge help to many of us in our video production efforts. ( He always tells me the truth...at least I think he does ;) ) This  is a fun video he produced for his Halloween series of blog posts. He's a master at bringing his community to life via video. His channel is RichardYates13 - Don't forget to hit subscribe.



And finally, a person I chose at random from VBloggers. Wow, is Charlie Dresen talented! It’s fun to discover someone new -and now I've got a new standard to to try reach. He's simply one of the best I've seen at video production. Be sure to watch his other videos. His channel SteamboatsMyHome - Don't forget to hit subscribe.

I just joined the group, yet I'm unsure since I didn't get any confirmation but I believe video is the best tool to market anyone's products or services. Hopefully, I'll learn how to process the video opportunity.

John - thanks for the visit. The VBloggers group is a great group of folks, some are willing to share their expertise too. :) Have you met Richard Yates? He's got a great series for beginning video production Be sure to visit his blog.


Marc and Cary - folks are just getting the gist of this...give it a bit more time. :) I'm sure you'll be a YouTube Thursday featured channel one of these days. Thanks for doing some subscribing. ( And You are welcome!)

Gene - do NOT be scared to death. Just experiment and practice and ask questions. That's what I did - I still have lots to learn too. Don't be intimidated - move at your own speed and with your own style. Watching other videos is also a great way to learn about video production - hence YouTube Thursdays. :)

 

Jerry, Glad you found the post - join VBloggers and let the fun (and Learning) begin. Don't hestiate to ask questions - somebody may have the answer here.

Gayle - You got it - I'd love to show you the basics of video production - honestly a tripod is the BEST piece of equipment - and obviously a decent video camera (mine is a middle of the road - one of these days I'll get a GREAT one) but then it's all about experimenting - just like Photography - lighting is important.

Not sure about top of the heap. But, at least a few people are liking it THIS week. WE shall see huh?

Seanna - hopefully you can get some other videos up and we can start promoting your YouTube channel. I really appreciate you kind comments - I am a former radio broadcaster, so the voice over stuff comes a bit easier for me than most folks. Let me know if you need a hand. I love to talk videos.

Evelyn, Do NOT, Do NOT, get intimidated - we all have to start somewhere - that's the beauty of VBloggers and hopefully, YouTube Thursdays...it's to encourage and help us all get better. My first stuff looks pretty funny to me now...:) Please keep watching videos and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Derrick Team - it may not happen overnight, but it is an important part of marketing. I'm going to come visit you and see what you've done - I love to look at videos.

Greetings Debb - I would like to offer two items as follows:

  1. On the instructional videos make sure the viewer can open the video using the full screen button in the lower left corner of the YouTube display. This way the viewer can follow along the instuctional video. In its current form it virtually having audio only because, at least with these eyes, the screen is to small to see what you're attempting to show.

Good point Jeff and Jane - this post is mostly a promotion for our YouTube accounts, and the primary focus is drive viewers channels. However, I also wanted to post a sample of each VBlogger on my blog page - but didn't want to have a huge post. I am familiar with the larger YouTube screen. And, hopefully, most folks realize that here is an option to go view these in YouTube - which is the best spot to view them, IF you plan to subscribe. In fact, I often hit the full screen option in YouTube to view all of my videos and others that I watch.

That way, I can really see the details and also catch any uneven filming or edits. Thanks though, perhaps other people don't know that you can view these in a larger format by choosing the YouTube on the bottom bar of each video.

Hi Carol, You may want to add more videos to your library before solicting subscribers...it's more effective that way. However, count me in - I have just subscribed and support you in your video marketing efforts.

Thanks for taking on this mission Debb. Richard has developed into an awesome videographer and Charlie Dresen's work is almost too painful to watch....making so noticeable the lack of quality I have in my videos...What a great standard though!

By the way, you have an aesthetic eye that you've brought to the layout of your posts. That is the first thing I notice before i read word one. I think I've said that before but hey....it continues to show what can and should be done by the rest of us.

Rebecca -  glad you're anxious to get into video. At least you recognize the difference from a slide show and a video - I'm amazed at the number of folks who call a slide show a video. There really is a big difference as you know. I have subscribed to your channel. Let me know if I can help.

 

Bob - won't lie. It is time consuming - especially in the beginning as you're learning software. However, it is worth it and if you're creative - it becomes fun.

Thanks for the visit. Agree totally with your assessments of Richard and Charlie...Charlie has some "GREAT" equipment that sure helps put videographer on a new level -and yes, obvious skills and talent.  It sure is fun to learn and strive to do better though. That's why I love looking at all the videos and different people's spins on them.
