Wow.. time flies when you're having fun

Title Insurance with First American Title

PaytonTwo months ago I realized (or maybe it was my gut in the mirror) that I was getting out of shape.  Was it the new job, being back in Texas and living on BBQ, or simply the fact that I've become lazy about exercise?  Probably a combination of everything.

I decided it was time to start running and so I put forth a plan; I would run every day in the evening, and rest on Wednesday and Sunday.  On my 2nd run my 10-yr old daughter (Payton)asked if she could follow me along on her bike.  Spending valuable time with five kids can be a challenge at times and so I told her it was a great idea.  Never did I realize how much fun we would have together.  Payton is funny and wow does she have a gift for gab.  Mostly I listen (because I can hardly breath running) and she does all the talking.  Listening to the stories of her day and watching her laugh at her own jokes and comments makes the time pass by so quickly.  Before I know it we're 2-4 miles out on the greenbelts and it's time to turn around and head home.  Knowing I have her as a running partner makes it so much easier for me to stay motivated to keep running.

As I reflect back over the past 5 months I can hardly believe how much has happened since I joined First American Title.  I've literally come to know hundreds of agents.  Much like time spent running with my daughter, the days have come and gone in the blink of an eye.  An industry that I knew little about and people who I knew nothing about have become friends, clients, and partners in business.  I must admit that I'm having the time of my life.  With all the fun I'm having the business has been great too.  We continue to grow market share and clients report that our team continues to deliver exceptional service.

It's unfortunate that it took me so long to find a career I am so passionate about.  This doesn't mean it's easy by any means.  Like my runs, it's challenging and every day brings another obstacle.  My dad always taught me that most often the best things in life are the hardest things to achieve.

I have come to believe that everyone has the right to be happy in their career. Real Estate is a noble career.  You have the blessing of being able to help others find happiness in their own "American Dream".   I envy your courage and the risks you make each day as you do so much on your own with so little support.  Take pride in what you do and find happiness in helping others.  When others around you complain about the economy, the brokerage, the crazy buyer or seller, the bank industry, the title company, or anything else that brings you down just remember one thing; you have the ability to decide today if you're going to find happiness in your career or not.  Happiness is not the result of financial success, it's the result of making good choices and of seeing the good in all things around us.  A positive attitude and maintaining integrity will get you far with clients and will eventually bring financial success.

I wish each of you all the success you deserve over the coming months.  Don't lay down and give up because it's the holiday season.  Decide today that nothing is going to get in your way.

Max,   I must start off by saying HOWDY and welcome back to Texas!  You and I are pretty much on the same course right now.  I recently moved back to the San Antonio area after being gone for 20 years.  I wanted to get closer to my family and spend more time with them.  Starting this week, I told my two kids, Josslyn 10yrs old next week and Jett who is 6 that we are going to start getting out and riding bikes and walking the local trails.  They were pretty excited, for me a little nervous because I have gained weight over the last few years.  Well we made our first hike after school on Tuesday and went three miles! Holly smokes, I did three miles I was so pumped up!  Now to add to this more, my kids and I had a wonderful time talking and getting to bond on this trip.  It was awesome!   One more thing, just like you, I made a move from one company to another in the last month.  I am EXTREMELY excited about the move and the opportunities for me.  I've been in the mortgage business for 15 years in Dallas and then just to drop everything there to get closer to my family I was scared being in a new market.  Well, within the month I have meet so many wonderful people and realtors and already picked up some business.

Best of luck to you....Stay in touch!

Thanks Stephanie.  I lived in San Antonio (Stone Oak) for 18-months and we really loved it. Like Dallas, there are some great people there.  Enjoy the hills!

Max. Welcome to Active Rain! I came over tonight after reading Dorie Dillard's post about you in our Newbie Contest. Times does Fly by, and I remember back on my last duty station at Fort Campbell, KY in 1988, that my daughter used to ride her bike too and I was out jogging. I don't do much jogging today, though my doctor would be pleased if I did more walking.

I would encourage you to participate in your Newbie Challenge too.
