Here's an Idea?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Burnet

Lately I've been finding it much easier to hide behind my computer screen and blog to my fellow active rain members, update my facebook, and respond to all 4 of my email accounts.  Yeap, it seems I've got quite comfortable sitting on my butt.  But what happens when the phone rings? my body goes in panic mode...who's this? I don't recognize the number, could this be a potential lead?...what do I say? do I have a pen, paper?

Why has normal verbal communication become so difficult? O, yeah, because I'm either texting, or writing an email.

Starting today I am going to get off my butt and make it a point to turn to the person next to me in line at the coffee shop and introduce myself, If I can do that just once a day that's 30 people a month that I get a chance to talk to face to face.

I also want to challenge you to go do the same...the holiday season is just around the corner, you know the lines are going to be long, so make the best of it and meet someone new!

Are you up to the challenge?

Tyghre - what a great name you have, first and last. Yes, it's easy for us to get real comfortable behind the screen. Happens to me all the time. Thank goodness I have a partner, or I would be in real trouble.

We are getting business off our blogs, which makes it easier to justify.

What a great challenge.  Sometimes I want to give myself only 2 hours in front of the computer- but that never happens.  We need to get ourselves out there in order to actually talk to people.

If you increase that to three times a day at various places that is 90 a month.  Little things add up.

You can't make any money sitting in the office all day unless you are on the phone talking to prospects.

Good challenge - more Realtors should be getting out and seeing people in person!  I do think blogs are a great addition to our business though, providing we don't spend all day on the computer!

Phone calls are easily outnumbered by e-mails...

The only time I really go anywhere is when I have appointments but maybe I'll meet someone the next time I'm at the grocery store.

I think that's an excellent challenge to everybody!

Especially in our industry, verbal communication needs to flow quickly and naturally. It can't be scripted either, it has to be genuine and sincere. And the truth is, you never know where you're going to meet your next client.

Go for it. To get me started, I went and got myself a nice polo shirt with my personal log, name and profession embroidered on it. You would be surprised how often people start to chat you up when they see what you do.

Tyghre, we know we're in trouble when the phone ringing with leads feels like an interruption from our blogging...

Funny, I remember listening to a conference call involving a mortgage consultant who was brand new in the business and within a year was knocking it out of the park just by handing out three business cards to strangers each day.  A couple years later I saw her posting on a web forum about how to improve her web results...she had gotten away from handing out her cards.  Successful people do what other's don't want to do.

What a great idea Robert.  I'm sure a shirt with my name on it would be an easy conversation to start with people.  Thanks!

I have been the same way lately.  Real estate will always be a face to face business though, and you are right, we all need to get off our duffs if we are going to make it happen.

Great idea Tyghre!  I'm always in $4 Bucks and I like talking to people.  Robert, I totally agree with you about the shirts.  I wear my personalized polo shirts everywhere and it ALWAYS sparks a comment/conversation.

I think it is key to speak with as many people as possible.  I feel like when I give more I receive more, especially in this business.

Your absolutely right Joe.  It's a number game, you have to be out there every day talking to as many people as you can!

Great idea!  I find AR addicting for sure and I try to limit my time on the computer.  But it really would be beneficial to talk to a stranger a day.  Time to try something new!
