A Vital Item On Your 2012 Technology Wish List

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

LearningI was interviewed for the online December issue of REALTOR magazine (check it out then) about what to put on your technology wish list. Think of it as toys to buy for your professional life going into a new year. Surprisingly this one among others was

A Vital Item For The 2012 Tech Wish List

And that is, EDUCATION. No point in getting new gadgets, new software, fancy tools, computing devices, mobile platforms, creating web sites if you do not get THOROUGH training behind them.

I state this, and this must be the born teacher in me, you can never get too much education. AND training is something no one can ever take away from you. It resides between your ears if it doesn't fall out. Classes, formal and informal, for credit or not, reading blogs, taking webinars, reading reading reading books and magazines, it is ALL out there for you to digest and be VERY good. Even conferences.

BE A SPONGE WHEN IT COMES TO LEARNING.

Make time for it. It MAKES a BETTER YOU!!!

Gary, you hiti it on the head with this one.  I have so many fulfilled  technology wish list items that I haven't yet mastered.  Oh wait!  I barely know what to do after I turn them on!

Gary, I have always been an advocate of education.  I even adore education for education's sake!  But when it comes to all those gadgets and gizmos, learning how to use them is absolutely vital.  GREAT reminder!

Great post, how many gadgets  have been purchased when they were the cutting edge of technology  and they are just sitting on the shelf unused. I am certainly guilty ... and one item in particular comes to mind. I bought a Dell PDA several years ago (2006) and never used it. Thanks for sharing.

I totally agree Gary... education is priceless.  Exactly the reason I'm heading to NAR's Conference in Anaheim, CA next week for a ton of great classes!  Hoping for some sunshine too!

Always should be on your business plan.  The time you feel you had plenty of education is when you stop growing in your career and mistakes begin to happen as you are out of touch.  Great post to remind of the importance of education.

Hi Gary,

Wow, congrats on your interview, looking forward to reading it!

You my friend are so right about being like a sponge, I tell the newbie agents in my office that same thing myself when it comes to all things r.e. Back in the day as a very young REALTOR (decades ago) I decided I needed to do that for my own self-confidence...when in-turn led to survival though thick and thin.

So...looking forward to your article & maybe your autograph!

Gary

Congratulations on your interview. Curious, how did it come about? And the education, I agree with you. for 31 years with 24 hrs required every 2 yrs, have usually gotten 30 to 60 hours each year, and if there is no credit that is ok with me I am looking to LEARN. It was a very exciting experience to publish a book in 2004 MYTHS AND REALITIES OF REAL ESTATE SALES and in 2006 THE FORGOTTEN ART The Seccrets of Enhanced Business & Professionals.

Maybe I am behind the times, just learned about active rain and am about to begin doing my blogging. It is disappointing to me when you mention an opportunity to get more education, and a person comes back with "I am too busy" that is a word we hear way too much of.

Gary,

Sometimes the best things to learn are not necessarily attached to what we do.  Speaking of education, well...this is something for which I'm a full advocate... g

I agree 100%. The classes and conferences offered through our state and and national associations, as well as the educational opportunities my broker provides for us, are simply invaluable.

Congrats Gary. You are absolutely right about education. There is no point of having all the technology and devices if you don't know what you are doing or need to do. Will look out for the article in the magazine.
