Are you doing what you love to do? Are you moving toward who you are designed to be? Are you where you want to be? Are you following the right path on your journey?
During the last few weeks there have been some life changing events happening in our lives such as Steve Jobs and Jamie Caulk leaving this dimension of life. As we study each of their lives we turn inwards also to ask questions of reflection of our own lives and journeys.
Steve Jobs said, " Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."
Those are words of wisdom from a great business philosopher that changed not just the world we live in but our mindsets as well by opening up an innovative love of entrepreneurship among so many people who may have never found this path without Apple products.
There is not enough time on this planet to settle for less than what you want or less than what makes you happy. There is a saying, " people will work harder for praises than for raises." In many situations this is so true and one of the rewards people love to receive is the feeling of knowing you are a part of something bigger than yourself. When you lose yourself providing value to others and to the world all your trials seem to be so small and your problems seem like nothing as you reach out your hand in whatever capacity that may be to someone who needs that hand right at that moment in time.
Steve said, " Being the richest man in the cemetary doesn't matter to me. Going to bed at night saying you've done something wonderful.. that matters to me." While we may say it was easy for him to say that because he was worth over 100 Million dollars by the time he was in his mid- twenties we can still translate that message into our own experiences. I know he was not saying that money is not important because it is.
" Money is not everything but it ranks right up there with oxygen" Zig Ziglar
But money is an energy form that is attracted to those who are doing what they love to do, that are engaged in providing value and adding to the world, not taking from the world without payment. Money stays with those who respect the process by which it is attained ethically and responsibly.
So how are you spending your time? What or who is holding you back? There is only one person who is really holding you back and that is who you are looking at in the mirror. Time is short, there is no time to waste. It is the one thing you can make back once you spend it.
Steve said, " No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped from it. And that is as it should be to, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life's change agent."
Then he said these words I have on index cards that I have on my mirror:
"If today were the last day of my life would I want to do what I am about to do today? And whenever the answer has been NO for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something."
Read those words each day when you wake up. Of course there are days where you must do things you don't exactly love to do but that is not what he meant. Notice the wisdom in his words, "... whenever the answer has been NO for TOO many days in a row...."
And you know what? For some of you that is going to mean that real estate is not for you, that this is not your passion work. For others it may mean that working for a company is no longer right for you. Whatever it is for you, think about it, discover your passion and then do what you love to do. You deserve nothing less.
