The Autumn Nor'Easter Snowstorm in Connecticut!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Fran Rokicki Realty, LLC

You can't even imagine the chaos that is going on in our state.  Most of the traffic lights are out.  Trees are still on the wires and crossing over the streets.  Yes, sometimes, you drive under it and pray, because you have no choice.  The snow has, mostly, melted away. Our Governor, the Honorable Dannel Malloy, has been offering updates daily on the progress of the cleanup/cleanout.  We have ninety-one shelters set up, so far.  He, also, has the man from Connecticut Light and Power updating us.  They have brought in out of state/country, linemen and now, the Connecticut National Guard to work on getting the trees removed and the power lines up, working again.  They have set a deadline for 99% service by Sunday, midnight.

Here are some photos that I have taken over the last six days.  You will notice that some have phone numbers posted, for those who may need help.  The communities are really supporting eachother. The photo below is of my driveway and front yard, on Birch Mountain in Bolton, Ct.  The next day, we lost a beautiful pine tree, three birch trees and two oaks.  The towns are advising us to place the brush and/or tree limbs on the side of the road and they are coming by with a wood chipper.  Clean up, has begun!

The snow was so heavy that it toppled trees.  Along the back roads and on the highways, the trees just fell over.  Keeney St, Glastonbury, Ct

This is one of my client's home, in Manchester, Ct.  Notice the ghosts and pumpkin to the left of the snowmen!  I don't think that I have ever seen Halloween decorations with snowmen, before!

Here I am with one of my clients in East Hartford, Ct. Trees are down, power is out.  They have gas heat and hot water. Gas for cooking, too.  That certainly, helps!

Glastonbury, Ct.  Notice the sign with a number to call for help!  People have really been very caring.

Another good neighbor, offering a place to go for help during the storm.  This was in Manchester, Ct.  I have ten clients in this neighborhood.  No power and some do not have heat.

To the right, in the distance, you can see that a huge tree fell right across the road.  This is on Parker Street, in Manchester, Ct.  I could have taken twenty photos, of this same type of scene.  This was taken, yesterday, November 3rd, Thursday,  at 5pm.  They are making progress.  We are now down to about 270,000 people who need to have their power restored.  Sunday is the target date!  I believe that they will make their 99% restored power goal!

Neighbors helping neighbors  Wow! What a Thanksgiving Holiday this year, will be!  Grateful to all of those people who went out of their way, to help another person in need.  Bless you, all!

Frances, let's hope there will not be a repeat of this scenario this winter and let's hope power will be restored soon.  I can't imagine being without power in cold weather!  All the best!

Hi Frances.  We've been talking all week about the people in Connecticut.  What you are going through!  I can't imagine being without power for that amount of time, not to mention the cleanup that will be needed.  Our thoughts are with you!

Silvia, We have never seen anything this bad, before.  It definitely shut us down.  Like our Governor said, this has before, Never!  We have crews from Canada who are even helping us get back on the grid.  Cold weather, this weekend, but, next week they are forecasting in the 60's.  People will be outdoors, cleaning up the fallen trees.  So many of them, hadn't lost their leaves yet and that caused the heavy snow to due more damage.  Thank you for stopping by!

Linda, Thank you!  We are amazingly, tough!  People are out there helping others and mostly, trying to make sure that everyone is warm!  The gas lines are gone and more generators are coming into the stores, everyday.  After this storm recovery, I am sure that more people will have generators in their homes.

I am heading to Long Island, on the 14th, to see Brian Buffini at a Turning Point in Melville.  Hoping for good weather:)

Oh Frances, I feel for you guys out there in CT.  It is still all over the news of families being in shelters and no power is restoed and CL&P are dragging thier feet when help has been brought up from the southern states.  It is so frustrating.  I hope your life resumes to normalcy as quickly as possible.

I feel for the folks as well, I didn't realize it was so stretched out. Here we get hurricanes or the threat every year and start preparing in June for the August through October season. Of course other than boarding up I get in the car and go north till the radio is barely mentioning it. I went through Fredrick, Cameile and Ivan. Then I decided no more.

Jennifer, This is not just another, snowstorm.  It tore up trees and left our state disabled.  We have never before, in history, had a storm like this one.  Thank you for thinking of us:)  We are almost back to normal!  They announced this morning that there are ten related deaths, due to this storm.  That amount of casualties, from one snowstorm, hasn't happened before.

Charles, Funny, many of us thought that this Nor'Easter, would go out to sea.  Unfortunately, it did not.  We felt the hit, head on.  No one could have known, how bad this would have affected our state.  I am sure now, when they forecast a Nor'Easter, people will pay closer attention to the details.  As they say, the devil is in the details!
