I've always thought that Social Media is a way of connecting/reconnecting and staying top of mind with people you know (vs. blogging/being found on google is a way for people who don't know you to find you). Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised when I got an email and a call from one of my friends from Business school (University of Chicago). We also worked together for several years at P&G in Cincinnati.
I hadn't seen him for well over 10 yrs. He then moved back to Chicago and I moved back home to New York. As luck would have it, he recently moved to Westchester NY, after his job transferred him to NYC. And, as luck would have it, he needs some flooring work, and guess who he called? You got it, The Flooring Girl!
We've been connected on LinkedIn for 5 yrs at this point. I often post status updates on LinkedIn and they are the titles and links to my favorite flooring blog post, and that's why he thought about me when he needed his flooring. His wife (whom I just met earlier this week) checked out our reviews on Angie's list and was impressed, and hence they called.
It was so much fun catching up and so fun meeting his 3 kids. It's always fun and surreal reconnecting and seeing how your friend's life has unfolded. His kids looked just like him, especially the oldest one.
Thank you linkedIn for connecting me with my friends.
