I've heard of home staging, but the home being the stage?

I was browsing the net this morning and ran across something new that is happening in the California real estate world..(Leave it to the Golden State)..Teams of actors are being hired to play a "happy family" during open houses.  Attractive people recreating domestic bliss in hopes to attract buyers.

I know we have all baked cookies, or made a big pot of rich aromatic coffee before curtain time, but have any of you ever hired actors to come to your open house to play board games, or to frolic in the back yard pool?

We as Realtors have always been taught that the seller should not be home when you bring prospective buyers to look, and I agree that- they should be gone..If a buyer feels like they are intruding when a seller is present during a showing, don't you think they will feel even more out of place if they are "crashing" a birthday party, or a family game of scrabble?  Imaging saying this to your customer when they ask if it is okay to look-"Oh, don't mind them, they don't actually live here, they are just hired to show you just how great it will be for your family to live here."

Do any of you have experience with the "Staged Family"?  If so, I would love to hear your take on it...

Interesting idea.  I don't like it.  I like buyers to "self discover" and create the scenes they would like in the home and not the scenes someone else creates.

You may be able to pay someone to live your life for you,LOL. it will happen in Ca. first. Hillary could use the family stagers if she moves to the white house.

That was an episode of TV the other day.  I don't know the name of the show.  It is the one where the big guy who drives a deliver truck (he called the compnay IPS) is married to a sexy wife with a Brooklyn accent.

I don't watch many of these shows normally.  I have been home recovering from surgery and have seen more bad daytime television than in the last 10 years combined.

Hi Shari,

I am a Californian and a Stager and I imagine that the play is a gimmick conjured up by LA agents? I would never...could never...

I have seen the promo's and read the ads and I would really like to know myself if the homes have sold. My guess is these people are desparate for attention. It is not a great selling tool...unless the homes have sold. Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't work!

Randy- That must have been the King of Queen!!  I wish I wold have seen it.

Erik- I wonder if I can take those stagers on my listing appointments as well?

Sheron- I am not sure what company dreamed it up, It does sound pretty cheesy, though!  I'd be the laughing stock of town If I did it here in little old Lewiston, Idaho!
