Every day I am bombarded by information in regards to the Real Estate market , financial stability of our global economy , who is under investigation for fraud or embezzlement. This reports come from LinkedIn, FaceBook, news media, RSS feeds, you name it. During the course of the day trying to stay on top of my current Real Estate transactions it becomes difficult to read all of them. But occasionally one will catch my attention enough to "click" through and read the entire article.

But the other morning as I decided to clean out one of my mailboxes this one stood out and caused me to take action.

Home Owner Alert: Receive Compensation for Foreclosure

This article was sent to my e-mail account via RISMEDIA  thanks to our Broker who is trying to keep the Realtors in our office up to date in regards to our industry. Of course, at first glance it looks like the typical government report which is hard to read through until you get halfway down the page to this paragraph.

"To apply for a review, individuals may call 888-952-9105 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 888-952-9105 end_of_the_skype_highlighting, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (ET), and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET). Individuals can get more information about the review through a website set up by the servicers, http://www.independentforeclosurereview.com/. In addition, the servicers will conduct an advertising campaign and send letters to borrowers who may be eligible to participate in the review to provide information. "

Our fair state became a Poster Child for Robo-Signing , so much that the local governments appealed to the State and requested a stay on foreclosures toward the last quarter of 2010. This also resulted in two of the largest foreclosure attorneys to come under investigation and many mortgage companies pulled their files from these attorney's offices in an effort to prevent any more erroneous foreclosures.

After reading and reviewing the article and website I decided to call the 1-888 number to discover exactly what kind of experience a damaged homeowner would experience.

The recording came on asking me to stay on the line for English , and then another statement precluded that one in Spanish. I can't tell you what that one said as I do not speak the language. So , I stayed on the line and listened to my options , which were as follows:

  • Press 1 - Find out which Homeowners are eligible for a review
  • Press 2 - How an eligible Homeowner can apply for a review
  • Press 3 - To speak to a Representative - If you choose this option which I suggest , have the following information about the borrower and property on hand:

           Name

           Loan Number

           Address of Property

          Social Security Number of Borrower

I have a close friend who appears to have become a victim of Robo-Signing in our area and they have volunteered to become my guinea pig so that I can follow this process through from beginning to end.  I am curious to see if this is another "Smoke and Mirrors" program due to the upcoming election year or if this is an actual attempt to rectify the grievous error that occurred to the families who lived on Main Street by the BIG Banks of Wall Street.
