Arlington County Virginia parks are now smoke free!

By
Real Estate Agent with Compass

You may have noticed these signs around Arlington, VA neighborhood parks recently.  I was pleased to see one at the soccer fields adjacent to my sons' school last week.   Arlington County, Virginia is launching an effort to keep our area parks free of smoke - within 50 feet.   Arlington County is kicking off this initiative with a smoke out at Bon Air Park on November 17 at 2pm.  To learn more about Arlington County's Smoke Free Park Initiative check out this website.  The US Surgeon General proclaims there is no safe threshold for second hand smoke, so it makes sense our parks where our children play should not be exposed to this toxin.   Another great reason why Arlington County is a wonderful place to live.

Hi, Coral -- for a smoke-phobic person like myself, something like this is always good news!

Have a great week, Eric

Glad to see this.  Though it may be hard to enforce if we can at least keep the smokers away from where the kids are playing it is a start in the right direction.

Poor smokers!   There is noplace where they can light up - and if their home is listed with me, they can't light up there either!

Next it will be the state.  Then one by one the states will proclaim themselves Smoke Zones and things will go back.  They do, after all, need the tax money.  Nobody pays more sumptuary taxes than smokers!
