Golden, CO Habitat for Humanity Restores
Habitat for Humanity has made a name for itself by building simple, decent and affordable homes. Celebrating the 1000th home built in Colorado, Habitat for Humanity has joined the "upcycle" movement by opening various restores in the Colorado area. Since it's inception in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has focused on building their homes with locally appropriate materials. The addition of the Restores allows homeowners, contractors, designers, and builders the opportunity to use perfectly good, previously owned materials.
Every Restore is a little different! Most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances, however like any resale shop there are some gems to be found. The materials are donated by individuals and companies that no longer need them, or are updating their properties. This keeps these working materials from entering the waste management system, giving them a new life and a new home. The heart of the upcycling movement is using previously owned materials. The beauty of upcycling is in how the previously own materials do not have to be used in their original form. Antique doors can be turned into dinner tables. Chair legs can be turned into handrails. Furniture can be re-upholstered and floors can be made of reclaimed wood.
Imagine the opportunities! With nineteen locations in the Colorado area, your home improvement projects can get off of the ground for half of the original estimated price. Don't have a home to improve? We can help with that too; here are some homes available now in the Golden area!
