Welcome to the Women of Westchester

women of westchester working togetherI belong to a networking group of strong women entrepreneurs.  Each owns her own business, and each is has a strong drive and bent of creativity.  Our businesses span a wide range of fields…none of us competing and all of us collaborating to try to help grow the others’ businesses.

We represent many areas including real estate, real estate attorney, title management, decorator, t-shirts and promotional products, graphic designer, bookkeeper, an event planner, an organizer, in-home nurse care giver, a painter, a fire/flood/mold restoration company, a plumber and of course The Flooring Girl.

We meet the first Friday of every month in West Harrison NY (and if you live in the area and your biz is not represented, we welcome you to join).

Well as luck would have it, I missed the October meeting, and it sounds like they had a super productive meeting about how to bring the group to the next level.  Several were discussing how amazing it was that I was getting so much business from the web and my blogging.  They wanted “in”…but many are rather behind on technology and a bit overwhelmed by the prospect of blogging.  Then, someone suggested, “What if we do it together?”  That way, we split the cost and the work and make it happen together.

I thought this was a great idea because collectively, it is much less intimidating.  And, we will energize each other.  So, I set up an Active Rain blog…it is Members Only now, but in the next month or so, we will activate it to be a Rainmaker account (sometime in December, I think).

Last week, I did an intro session on the power of this and an overview.  There is a lot to learn and I had less than an hour, so at beginning of December, I will cover part 2 and then hoping the group will be ready to dip their feet into blogging.  (We already have a draft post).

For now, we simply have 1 “real” post…it’s just a simple intro post, and we’ve started to fill out the profile page (I am doing this with the group as a learning exercise, so we will finish it in December.  The rest are all reblogs…trying to explain to the group how to do this.

I hope that you will subscribe to group.  If you do, over time, you will see a variety of topics posted from some very dynamic women.  I’m hoping the comments will help energize the group to blog more.  I’m hoping that we can reach at least 100,000 pts by the end of 2012 so that our membership cost will be lower in 2013.  (I know if it was my acct, I could do that, but remember, I’m trying to help others who are less tech savvy than I am to do this).

Please give a warm welcome to the Women of Westchester.

Debbie, Nice work and an interesting twist to have a collective approach.  With your experienced help, I've got no doubt they'll be successful :)

Debbie,

This sounds like an incredible group of women. You could be your own village, or Town Council and really make a big difference in your community. But I have a feeling, you're already doing that. Isn't it great to be a part of a group of strong women!

I wish the very best to all of you.

Patricia

Hi Debbie.

Sounds like you have created a great group for the area. Let then know what idea's you have to help them promote their business on line.

Then make sure they keep in touch for all the questions and follow up's that may be needed.

This group is the fist step towards success.

Best, Clint McKie

(Helen Reddy song in background.... "I am woman, hear me roar...) Good for you Debbie. Rotary is a great service club and woman are on board, in the ranks. They do more than eat and help out on needed local civic projects too that are needed to make an area vibrant, strong.

Bliz - Thx for the kind words.  Yes, this will be a slow ramp up (since we only meet once a month), but hopefully once we are up and running it will be very successful.

Patricia - Oh, yes, that is a cool idea...we can do all sorts of restautant and local recommendations.

Clint - Thx.  I wish I could take credit for creating the group, but I'm simply a member.

Andrew - Oh thanks.  Love that song!

Debbie:  This is a good idea and over time will help those that stick with it to increase their business.  Using your business as an example should keep them motivated.
