Now that we’ve established the best colours to use when staging in the Toronto market, let’s talk about lighting. It is amazing how many people overlook the importance of good lighting when showcasing a listing. Some
great locations to consider when shopping for the right light fixture are: Electrolight where you can find some great lighting and some great deals, if the home you're staging comes with a higher price tag you may want to consider Union Lighting or Sescolite. Both locations offer a variety of light fixtures including more high-end lighting fixtures appropriate for the higher end homes, and of course big box stores such as Rona, Lowes, or Home Depot.
If buying new light fixtures is not in the budget then consider bulbs to illuminate your listing and create the perfect ambience.
Tried, Tested and Traditional
Incandescent bulbs have traditionally been the most commonly used light source due availability and affordability. Although incandescent bulbs are becoming phased out they currently come in a range of wattages and are available for almost all light fixtures. Often used for accent lighting, incandescent bulbs produce a soft yellow-white light and are available in a number of different bulb types such as clear, frosted, or coloured styles.
Is energy efficiency and going green a priority?
Electron Stimulated Luminescence (ESL) bulbs are an up-and-coming technology. This type of light bulb offers an alternative to the potential dangers that surround CFLs and the poor quality and high cost of LEDs. The quality of light emitted from the ESL bulbs is indistinguishable from the light emitted by the incandescent bulb. For all of you with a greener conscience you may be happy to know the ESL bulbs are made of recyclable material, namely the plastic and the glass and unlike CFL’s, there is no concern of heavy metals such as mercury. Manufactured by Vu1, ESL bulbs are expected to become available in the Toronto area at LOWES in February 2012.
Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) and another green option. Utilizing 20-40% less energy and more light per wattage CFLs have been colour adjusted to produce light that is similar to real sunlight. Not only do CFLs save you money on your electricity bill, but you can pat yourself on the back for choosing an option that protects the environment from harmful greenhouse gas emissions. This bulb is an ideal option for most light fixtures, however it is important to note CFLs have not been without controversy, so it is important to consider the potential consequences when choosing a light bulb and it is equally important to consider reliability and safety when choosing a light bulb.
Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs are made from Xenon. They are known to last up to 10,000 hours and can be touched with bare hands. They come in a variety of colours and are generally used to illuminate pathways , spot/flood lighting, outdoor lanterns, strip lighting, under cabinet mount and desk lamps.
