BalanceSometimes You Just Need to Push Away The Keyboard

Our regulars have probably noticed we're "out of sync" this week.  Posting times running late and no double postings any day this week.  We could blame it on the time change...yeah, that's the ticket.... but honestly that's got nothing to do with it.

Is it for lack of ideas?  Nope, that's generally not a problem either, we've got plenty of those.  A lot of it just comes down to time challenges and where this week we decided to place our efforts.  Writing that 2nd post just didn't quite make it to the top of the list.  Maintaining a balance between blogging, work and a personal life isn't always a piece of cake is it?

There are posts on our To Do List that are heavy consumer interest type things that will get done in the near future, but those posts are often time intensive to write.  A typical patio home community post for us needs about two hours of dedicated time, and many other ideas aren't 10 minutes at the keyboard and hit Submit type posts either.

But don't think we've just been kicking back and neglecting our real estate business either.  Despite the "slow" time of the year, it's still been busy.  Another prelist, another home to put on the market next weekend.  Another prelist appointment that was most likely an exercise in futility, but that happens.  And a long visit with a past buyer to see what they'd done with the home since our last visit.  Mix in a visit to a 55+ community and a chat with the builder's rep to make sure we've got the latest and thinking this is another prime posting opportunity once we pull the stats to support it.

And some nights, you just get to the point where another blog post just isn't there to be had.  Start pulling MLS data and filling in a table while struggling to stay alert and suddenly the average price for a home is now zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz???  What just happened there??  Okay, maybe it's time to push away from the keyboard! :)

We'll be back later with another consumer friendly post!

Keep on Blogging,

Liz and Bill aka BLiz

Even at my most prolific I don't maintain the pace that you regularly keep. This week we've moved our office so there have been days I was so busy that I didn't even log into AR!

It's good to take a break. You don't want to turn into a robot, doing the same thing every day!

Frank, That's the great thing about blogging.  Once those posts are out there, they don't stop working for us.

Mark, That's a pretty good reason for being away.  An office move is pretty time consuming.

Donald, I don't mind doing the same thing every day if it's something I enjoy.  The nice thing about blogging is the variety in topics keeps it fresh.

Bliz, sometimes it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. Although, it is nice to be busy.

I'm with you, Bliz.  It has been crazy around these parts lately.  It typically slows here around this time of year, but I'm more busy than ever.  So, I do what I can, and I don't worry about the rest.  Now, if I could just get better at pushing away from the dinner table.

DOES NOT COMPUTER, DOES NOT COMPUTE! I am so guilty of keyboard/internet addiciton it's laughable. I always want to do my computer based work first and then I let all the other paperwork fall by the wayside, so I appreciate your advice.

Michael, I've come to realize I'll NEVER get everything on my to do list done.  Just try to make sure the criticals do get taken care of.

Mike, It's a good problem to have!  We've had more activity than expected, and we'll gladly take it :)

Randy, If you're like me, the computer work is a LOT more fun than some of the other stuff.  Blogging and Active Rain reading/commenting is way more enjoyable than some of the other daily activities!

This post is very timely for me. I had to push it away several times in the last week. Just too much other personal stuff going on which had cut into my discretionary time significantly.  I think the time change messed me up as well.

Barbara, The time change does throw the mental cycle a little off kilter for a bit :)  We do what we can, when we can, and sometimes that just has to be enough.

BLiz:  I recently moved my office from the main area of our home to the upstairs.  I have found myself more connected with my wife and spending less time online.  I love it!!

J, I run into that sometimes with Liz.  Office is in one of the spare bedrooms.  Repeat every 5 minutes from Living Room:  Are you done yet?  Are you done yet? Are you done YET? :)  Bill

Anthony, Keeping it level in this business can be a challenge :)

I have been told this many times, that is when I pull out my ipad for that does not have an Actual keyboard on it haha. In all seriousness though, the stress of the late nights really isnt good. You think you are doing the right thing by getting work down, but at the same time you are losing valuable sleep time. I have been trying to push away the keyboard, and my ipad, and my iphone, and pager, and what ever other electronics I have.

Jerry, It's easy to lose track of time in the Rain :)

Bud & Beth, It's easy to get sucked into trying to get JUST ONE MORE THING done every evening.....but you're right, there is a price for it.

Kathy, Good thing I was working in an Excel spreadsheet! :)  Haven't had any trouble with lost post, always craft them in Scribefire first, so the AR blog editor is just for adding links and photos, so minimal loss if it goes Poof on me.

Sandy, That's the target, but some days that 2nd doesn't happen.  Depends on idea generation and time both.  Still have some of the long ones to do, but had more pressing items this evening than a 2nd post :)  Once the routine gets established, it's not too bad to maintain the posting schedule.
