ATTITUDE. By Dan Dee McGinnis, a Realtor, Speaker, Published Author. Isn't it rather AMAZING how attitude works?

A thought came to mind last week with regard to the saying I am sure you have heard before, it goes like this: IS THE GLASS HALF EMPTY OR IS THE GLASS HALF FULL? I will proove it is half full toward the end of this blog post, or at least that it "WAS" half full when we initially ask the question.

Over the past thirty years I have continued to learn about attitude, being a real estate agent it is interesting to note for years and years I sold about 20 to 30 homes every year, year after year, when interest rates wereas HIGH as 20% I actually sold more during that time than during the time the rates are now BELOW 4%. That doesn't make sense does it? The prices are almost back down where prices were 15 years ago. The only reason I will sell about half of what I have in the past, is just because I have not yet learned where the market is exactly, or I have not been able to make contact with the people who are wanting to buy right now.

I do know there are some agents having a tremendious year because they have found their market nitche where people ARE BUYING right now.

A large percentage of it is "ATTITUDE" and what is ATTITUDE? It is all about how you "THINK" When you "THINK" things are going good, for the most part they: ARE GOING GOOD. When you think things are: "NOT GOING SO GOOD" they won't be going so good. Just as I was thinking a couple of years ago. Then I finally worked and worked daily on my attitude, and my belief system, all of a sudden I am back to where I am doing business again.

Did you know according to the National Association of Realtors, the average agent sells four homes a year, recently I heard that number was down to three! Then too, we probably have lost about 100,000 agents nationwide with the: "ECONOMY" as everyone talks about nowadays. More people are paying CASH for homes now than ever before. How do you explain that? Interesting!

Actually I have more buyer leads right now than I have ever had in my 31 year real estate career at one time! And with all of this going on I have decided to break a record in 2012 by selling more homes in the year 2012 than any of the past 31 years, just  to prove to myself I can do it!

This year I have knocked on the same 850 doors eight times out of 10 months. In many cases the person is not home or doesn't answer the door. I ALWAYS LEAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH MY NAME, TELEPHONE NUMBER, AND REAL ESTATE COMPANY NAME ON IT. This last month: I knocked on 50 doors, 10 people answered the door, six of the 10 told "ME WHO I WAS" before I could introduce myself. They were positive, complimentary, and polite.

When I list a home for sale, I post an ad on the internet AT LEAST SIX DAYS OUT OF THE WEEK. Part of having that positive results is consistency, and persistence. I have been a member of Toastmasters for six years, and now a member of four clubs. Every time I give a speech, it is somehow connected to real estate, I can give a humorous, serious or entertaining speech about real estate, and it is a subject I know well. My return on my investment in 2011 is 4500%!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tell other real estate agents that and they turn up their nose and walk away and say: "I don't want to be a public speaker"

Now I will share the idea about how to really prove the glass is half full!!! I would love to give a speech and have an audience, this would be so cool, and ask if the glass is half empty or half full, and have someone sitting in front who would say it is half empty. At which point I would throw the water on that person right in their face! I know that would be a pretty drastic measure, however hoping it would turn out to the audience to be humorous AND prove a point at the same time.

I hope your day is as good as mine,

The Pumpkin Man
