What Do You Think Bothers Me About These Two Photos

Home Stager with Innovative Artistry

I mentioned previously that there were a few components that helped propel me forward into Staging.  Part of the equation had to do when I would check into Hotel Rooms & the way they had been Staged for guests.  I try not to be too critical, but for some reason a few things in these two photos didn't seem right with me & I would have done differently?

I feel attention to detail is important when you are having guests arrived & this applies if it is your Vacation Property or Your Home for Sale....(or your Vessel for Charter).  What do you think my thoughts were with these two images?

What Bugs Me A

What Bugs Me B

What do you think??  I have not altered or touched either of the photos except to put a frame around them for you.....

It's rather difficult to see yourself in the mirror with a lamp in front of it, makes it rather useless.  White bedding and made of a fabric that wrinkles so much isn't such a hot idea either.  Not when it gets that much use and abuse in a hotel.  How am I doing?

Dear Roger - I am laughing soooo hard!  (now anyway)  Well you "get" it!!!  Why & how did someone get paid for this??.... I see sometimes things arranged that are just amazing. I have seen more than once...although usually the sheets are pressed.  Today was an exception.  This is not the location I just posted, but a post to come. They did a lot in the lobby.

I guess it is a quirk of mine??  I would think it would bother others??  These are things that don't cost extra money...but someone spent $$ to have this result??   Thank you Roger, I just had a moment & it was something I thought valuable to share for others (for their vacation property, sale of their home, etc.) the same can apply.    Thanks so much for the time to visit, what a GREAT surprise :)!

What is good to take away from this isn't do much that it caught your professional eye but that, even if not specifically identified, the general public would also feel that things were out of sorts here and then repeat business is lost.

Dear Mark - Yes, exactly...most people would see this was off & wonder about the quality I think...IMHO....  Thank you, you are right, I felt it was not just a professional that would notice.

It's amazing what some people get paid to do, and poorly.  I have the same kind of eye, things like this drive me crazy!  When my brother lived in The Woodlands in Texas and I would visit, I loved touring model homes in the community.  Very seldom did I leave one with all of the furniture and appointments in the same place, I would move and rearrange things..............LOL.  That's me!

Dear Roger - LOL, I can totally see that....I think that we are kindred spirits in this regard....  Good for you!!  Thanks for helping me laugh through this both of you.  I hate to admit it, as I do try to remain neutral as possible, but it did make me a little crazed to think of these people (the owners) being taken advantage.  You are right though when your eye sees it, it is difficult to tune it out.  :-/

Welcome to ActiveRain,  Pam...Roger sent me to say Hi!  Those pics are not at all appealing...I totally agree with you and Roger.  They could put a little more effort into creating a more luxurious room!

Hi Pam...looks like you have the stagers curse. I can't go anywhere without analyzing my surroundings!! Did you start rearranging things too...lol!!! I am always re-designing spaces in my head, and haircuts and outfits...it's part of who we are I suppose.

Hi Pam--welcome to the Rain.  I agree with Valerie that you apparently have the stager's curse.  I am always rearranging or redesigning in my head, even if it is inside of a restaurant!  My friends and family suffer from constant "suggestions"!

Welcome Pam! I am with Sharon... following Roger's lead!

I am constantly moving things around until it "feels" right. If my eyes get "stuck", it is no good. If my eyes flows, I hit it!

BTW, that lamp is really bothering me! : )

Dear Roger - Thank you!!  Very sweet of all of you to visit!

Dear Wanda - Thank you, it is nice to be here.  I agree that I would have moved things.  Thank you for stopping by.

Dear Sharon -  Thanks so much for visiting...yes it wouldn't have taken that much & it wouldn't have been much (if any) more $$ invested.

Dear Valerie - Yes, it is the "Stager's Curse"...the head never stops does it??  Yes, the creative minds are always busy.  Happy to get to meet everyone & thank you for visiting!!

Dear Janet - Yes, I agree about the curse & the family...although sometimes my parents are the toughest.  My daughter has watched me all these years & she started her studies with Art, so it isn't so difficult for her... :)  Thank you for coming by to visit as well!

Dear Lydie - Yes, the flow is so important...the lamp is what bothered me the most.  They should have either installed a longer dresser (or two)...or a pendant lamp instead of that lamp??  I just couldn't & can't believe that 'anyone' especially someone trained, couldn't see the visual of it??

Sorry I just landed & what I think is best is to go to each of your blogs & visit this evening.  I do feel I have the Stagers's curse.  Very difficult to over look these things.  I agree Roger, it is amazing the things that people get paid to do & they do it poorly.  I think the lamp is what bothered me the most, but they left no other place for it.

They were just trying to cut costs I feel with the size of the dresser?  You could slide it down slightly, but really not enough with all that jammed.  The TV was not centered, but it was manageable.

Thanks everyone!!  I just had a moment.  I will forward to getting to know everyone!!  Thanks so much again Roger!!!  Have a great day & bye til this evening.

Pam Roger sent me and like a good Catholic girl, here I am.  The tv and mirror and lamp are all off kilter and I'm no stager and the wrinkly bed, hello.  Welcome to the Rain you will love it here.

Pam, I'm not a stager but I noticed the wrinkles immediately and I didn't like the balance of the TV and lamp.  My thing is usually pictures and mirrors.  I don't need a level  -- I know instantly if they are even the least bit tilted and I find that I usually find myself correcting them.

Pam, welcome to AR. I'm from Roger's post also. Maybe that's why people decorate poorly their bedrooms. They hear about " hotel's look" and  just keep seeing bad examples.LOL I have the same habit of analyzing.

Dear Liz - :), well thank you for coming by....I feel bad, I hope not too much pressure from Roger!  Thank you & yes, it was something to see.  Thank you for the welcome & I think I will love it hear & have so far.  So nice to meet you & greatly appreciate you taking the time to stop by & visit.

Dear Gary - I am like that also with balance & flow.  This is just one component of Staging, but such an important one!!  You are right, you notice it right away....  I am just surprised sometimes.  Thank you so much for visiting :)

Dear Anna - May be you are right...they see bad examples.  I have to say, not all of them are that way, thankfully, but there are many.  I guess what surprised me about this hotel is there were so many other areas that were nice (I haven't posted about the rest yet)....that I guess it took me off guard, as it seemed they stopped when they got to the rooms??  Guests take in the whole package when they decided to stay, refer others, or come back again....  I am not sure why they would have put so much into one area & short changed another???  As a Stager of course you can imagine (well I think everyone here has...)  Thank you so much for the welcome & thank you for not making me feel like I am the only one.

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome!!  I am off to try to visit blogs this evening....

Hi there Pam, perhaps they fell asleep on the bed before they were done?

We once gave a new stager a try and she hot glued fake fruit to the walls of a model home bathroom. There is SO much is wrong with that sentence! We have not used her services since.

Welcome to the 'rain!

The wrinkled bedding is like nails on a chalk board.

And all of the elements in the top picture are grating as well.

I’m so glad you bring peace, serenity and graciousness into the world, it is desperately needed.
