It's "Flu Shot Saturday" in Knoxville, Tennessee today

The annual flu season is just around the corner.

Achy joints, runny nose, watery eyes, feel bad all over; bummer.

No one wants it but a lot of people are gonna get it..........unless........you get a flu shot.

But help is at hand; today is "Flu Shot Saturday" in Knoxville.

Started in 1992 by Knoxville physician Dr. Charles Barnett, Flu Shot Saturday has become a huge, annual event in the area administering thousands of free preventive flu shots to area residents.

The vaccine is funded by grants from BlueCross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Knoxville Rotary Clubs, and other area businesses. Dr. Barnett enlists the help of his medical group and other local medical professionals to actually administer the injections.

While it's technically free, donations are encouraged and all monies raised are donated to the Knoxville News Sentinel's Empty Stocking Fund which provides food and Christmas toys to lots of Knoxville area families who would otherwise do without during the upcoming holiday season.

Empty Stocking Fund volunteers at work unloading and assembling empty boxes to be filled with food and toys.

Here's what the Empty Stocking Fund projects for this year:

"This year we will feed 3,500 families, about 8,000 people, and supply toys to more than 2,100 children. Each family receives a food basket with 70 pounds of food. The basket contains a turkey, fresh produce, canned goods and much more."

My wife and I got our flu shots at Farragut High School this morning along with what looked like about 500 others. We also made a contribution to the Empty Stocking Fund. What a great way to not only keep healthy but give something back to your community.

Don't forget to get your flu shot this year before it's too late. Being sick is not only not fun it gets in the way of your real estate business.

Jim, I got my flu shot last Saturday at the grocery store.  It cost me $30., and was well worth it.  It's great that you put the links in your post.
