Today was one of those unexpected moments where my quick errand turned into something longer than planned. I ran into the church building where I attend to pick something up. Inside the building I encountered a friend who recently lost her father. I had not seen her since he died and asked how she was doing.
This quick errand turned into several minutes of conversation which included some time to allow her to tell me about the challenges she was experiencing. The contracting business needed to be wrapped up and a final job needed to be completed. These actions were also within the midst of dealing with the grief of death. This raw reality was readily apparent.
Each of us gets busy with our tasks related to real estate. A to do list is compiled, looked at several times throughout the day, accomplished and crossed off. Phone calls prompt additions to the list. The echoing of my coach's voice reminds me, "The day begins by lead generating. I have not done that yet.
With this backdrop and time ticking away, I was faced with a decision. Do I take the time to just listen? What is my priority for this moment. It was an easy decision. I would pay it forward by just listening. This was the most sacred thing I could do today.
Take some time to listen to a friend in need, dealing with life's challenges and pay it forward. Remind yourself that there is no better way to pay it forward than to listen to another. Listen!
