Elevator Speech ~ More Than Points!!

Home Stager with Innovative Artistry

We understood after reading about the Elevator Speech Contest, that it was worth to us way more than points....

Rebekah Radice is always wonderful at bringing us a way to gain business, marketing, or tech tips, & with this contest ~ confidence in speaking concisely about our business, & relationships....

However, today I learned it could be worth even more!!  Really you say!!??

The Miami Herald (& many papers) always posts a section titled Business Monday. I arrived home late to scan it & I couldn't get my fingers to the keyboard fast enough.... Now, we haven't heard the results of the contest yet. I saw the benefit of an Elevator speech when Rebekah Radice put the assignment & contest out there for us, but today it took on a whole other level.

There is a Community called "Launch Pad". The contest is in their promoting Global Entrepreneurship Week.

""The Launch Pad opened in August 2008 as part of the Toppel Career Center and offers career guidance, resources, and advice to entrepreneurs, innovators, and inventors at the University of Miami.

Tomorrow there will be presentations totaling over $100,000. Yes, that is true!! $100k. The rules.

The Launch Pad presents

2011 Elevator Pitch Contest

Sponsored by The Miami Herald

There are categories for "Grand Prize", "Student", & "People Choice", plus sponsor categories for $10k each sponsor category.

There are (7) Student & (13) Community Category Finalist

The 2011 Elevator Pitch Finale will be held the evening of Tuesday, November 15th at the University of Miami. Again, the event is free and open to the public to attend.

It is amazing to me what I learn here on Active Rain!  Then the reality is "if" I had known about it a little sooner, I may have discovered a way to work on this project & not only strive to achieve points, & business, but also to gain additional resources to fund potential progress in the future.  I am too late for this year, as they have chosen their semi-finalists, but may be there will be a next year?

Their philosophy on Venture Capital is that it is not just about the business model, as it is about the person or people as the key ingredient for success. You may have a great business model, but if the customer or investor is not convinced of "you" as the person they are with in the relationship then all is lost.

A note to contest participants...if may be something for those of you in Miami or South Florida for next year.  Best Wishes to all of those participating or have reached the semi-finals!!  I look forward to hopefully seeing them in person tomorrow evening.  Have a great evening!  Thanks Active Rain, Rebekah, & Judges to opening my eyes to the Elevator Speech.

Dear David - Well may be by next year you could have a second home here??  I am too late finding it anyway for myself, but I felt it worthy to share with others that are here to know about & may be take an interest in the final speeches, as well as a Localism article..  I also thought it would be great to consider for next year?  The article also gave a sense of importance being placed on having a "Pitch" or "Speech" perfected.  Best of Luck with your speech & thanks for the wishes...may be next year, but glad that I now have one, as I hadn't prior.

$100,000 is quite the incentive and a great prize.  Good luck to all participating.

Dear Tim - Yes, I thought so...the entire $100k doesn't go to one person it is broken up into categories.  It does show the priority they are placing with this "Pitch" or "Speech" though as an important component to our business success.

Dear Kathy - Yes, that is what I thought when I read the article.  I only wish that I had know to share with everyone before as they have already chosen the finalists & the presentations & filming are tonight.

There is always next year....  I posted though to show the added value that is being placed on the importance & to highlight the "gift" & wisdom of the contest.  Also point out in "Localism" the organization & their efforts to help entrepreneurs.

You are right, it is something that we should have already anyway.  Thank you for stopping by!
