American Legion in Katy Texas to Collect Worn Flags

The Jonathan D. Rozier American Legion Post 164 in Katy Texas will be collecting torn, faded, badly worn American Flags on Saturday November 19, 2011. The flags are being gathered at two local Kroger stores being the Grand Parkway at Highland Knolls location and at the Westheimer Parkway and Mason road location. Collections will begin at 9:00 A.M. and last until 2:00 P.M.

There is a very proper means of disposing any American Flag and if any residents have a flag they do not want any more for whatever reasons this is an excellent way to have your flag disposed of in the appropriate manner. No one should ever just take an old American Flag and throw it into the garbage.

If you want any additional information go to the local American Legion web site.

The Katy American Legion Post 164 meets on the 4 TH Wednesday of every month at the Katy Elks Lodge # 2628 which is located at 1050 Katy-Fort Bend RD. Katy Texas. Their next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday November 23, 2011. Which is the day before Thanksgiving.

Hi Bob.  I wish someone around here would get the word out for a place to take your flags to be disposed of properly.   Great post.

Thank you ladies for commenting on my blog. I hope folks who have worn out flags will take advantage of this opportunity.

Yolanda, I found a web site that does have certain pictures for free. I go to ask images. I would do a Google search to start with.

Bob -- I know that a flag that is worn should be disposed of in a dignified manner and burning is normally the way to do that, but somehow I have never been able to wrap my head around that.  It seems disrespectful to me. However, flag etiquette supports that action.  I would just turn my flag over to the American Legion to let them dispose of it properly and ceremoniously.   A post of this nature will help more people to understand that the American Legion in Katy as otheres across the country will take your flag and dispose of it in a respectful manner according to flag protocol.

I just learned that comment 3 and 6 are the point getters for you, so here's to your points.

I'm doing this with a goal in mind.  I want to reach 100K by the end of the year and whoever I can help along the way, enjoy.

Several years ago the house next door to the one I was inspecting had a flag that was so worn I think it had been flying for 50 years. The owners of the house I was inspecting told me the guy next door was in his eighties and a vet of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

I notified my nearest VFW chapter and they arranged to get him a new flag. I was so happy.

Howdy and evening Bob

Bob, this here is such a mighty fine Localim blog post! You sure are right that folks should never put our Country's Flag into the garbage. It sure is mighty fine of those two Kroger Stores to take part in collecting American Flags so they are disposed of in the right way.

God Bless all Americans and our Great Country!

Have a good one
