Putnam County property taxes among lowest in state of Georgia

Recently I mentioned in a post what our milage rate is and that is is low and well I got a little tongue lashing on a comment that it doesn't really matter what the milage rate is, but rather what the actual tax amount for the year that counts.  I couldn't agree more (without the tongue lashing of course) so I thought I'd show you some of our listings and give you a little more detail about taxes in Putnam County. On each listing I have the listed price, the assessed amount and the actual 2011 (Due December 7, 2011) tax bill amount.

I choose listings in my office to showcase that have NO exemptions on them, so if you lived in any of these homes your taxes would be slightly lower with exemptions.  The tax assessors office or tax commissioners office can help you calculate what the bill would be if you lived there and they have all the relevant information including your age.  (Yes, seniors get some benefits).

I was inspired to write this blog by friend at ActiveRain who wrote about homes she was excluding from her search for buyers because taxes were so very out of line  Thanks Carla Muss-Jacobs.

And while once in a while a property may be WAY over assessed in Putnam County, that is rare and if you think your Putnam County assessment is way to high and plan a 2012 appeal now is the time to get a professional broker opinion and have everything ready for next year's appeal.  Of course when you call if I think your assessment is in line and you'd wasting your time to appeal it, I'll tell you that.  Honesty is something you can always expect from Lane Realty.

Your taxes are similar to ours in Phoenix.  Our tax formula is so complicated, at least that's what our accessor tells us!

Jan- ours is not too complicated with no exemptions, but a little more with those, but the good thing is our tax commissioner's website has the actual amount available on line as well as a history for each property.er

Interesting post, Tammy, I'm always intrigued by the tax implications in other towns and countries. It definitely can have an impact on a buying decision!
