Blogging is dangerous!!

I sell Real Estate in the Wilkes-Barre, PA area. Our Association of Realtors, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Association of Realtors, is very much a reflection of our market. To put it frankly, it's about 7 years behind the times and doesn't at all grasp the importance of the internet to anyone buying or selling a home in Northeast PA. I've often wondered about the functionality of it's systems when the website looks like this.

I was concerned. I believe in and love working in my market, so I felt that I needed to help somehow. But how?

This last week, I joined the technology committee. Yes, that's right, I joined a committee. Now, if you don't know me, and most of you don't, then you wouldn't have any idea that I can't stand bureaucracy in the slightest. The thought of being on a committee makes my head hurt. Images of a whole group of people meeting to discuss the myriads of ways to stand in the way of progress filled my head and I almost ran away screaming like a lunatic when the opportunity presented itself.

I retained my composure and thought it through. Then, I said yes. I think it's my duty to try and help where I can. The committee met this last Friday for the first time in 7 years. (How many years are they behind the times? Hmmmmm...) I'd have to say that we have some work to do. I asked how many of the Realtors in the rooms blogged and I was given the resounding response that blogging was dangerous and really shouldn't be done at all, due to the liability it causes. Huh? We REALLY have a lot of work to do.

So, remember me for the next few Fridays, as we delve into the intricacies of modernizing our website. I think we need to get the office hooked up with wireless access first...so I can get my technology to work.
