How to get rid of telltale furniture dents in carpet

Reblogger
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Robin Rogers, Silverbridge Realty, San Antonio, Texas 398351

I just sold a house with carpet in the bedrooms and family room. The tenants who lived there previously apparently had some very heavy furniture. The dents in the carpet were still there, even after the carpet was shampooed and steam-cleaned--twice. I wish I had known about these two methods of removing the dents so I could have passed it on to my client. Thanks to Barbara, I will know next time. Check it out:

At Design2Sell Interiors and Home Staging we are often ask to share tricks of the trade. One is how to remove dents. When a leg of any type of furniture is placed on a carpet, it will often create an unsightly dent. Here is how that issue can be addressed in 2 simple ways:

Ice cube Method

  1. Drop ice cubes in each dent.
  2. Let the ice cubes melt over night.
  3. Check the results the next morning.
  4. If result is not completely satisfying, use a fork/spoon to gently lift remaining carpet fibers..

Steam Iron Method

  1. Use steam iron and kitchen towel
  2. Steam area with dent (be careful with temperature)
  3. IF that does not do the trick gently use a spoon/fork to fluff the carpet

This works on most standard carpets

I have often heard about the ice cube trick but have not tried it.  Good tips to know.

I seem to be the only one who hasn't tried the ice-cube trick! How could I have not known about it? It just goes to show that all the answers are on ActiveRain!

Ice Cubes at our house. Never have tried the steam iron, little afraid I may do damage if I didn't do it right. Yea! for Active Rain.
