If you don't think "The Fix is In" with congress, you haven't been paying attention.  Here is an interview on 60 Minutes with convicted felon Jack Abramoff and the influence he had in congress where he says he had at least 100 congressmen in his pocket...which would've made him the most powerful unelected person in American politics.

In the interview, lobbyist Jack Abramoff explains how he asserted his influence in Congress for years, and how such corruption continues today despite ethics reform.

While "the people" squable amongst ourselves, our elected leaders and thier staff countinue selling out our country.

I watched 60 Minutes when this was on a week or two ago. Try as we might to think otherwise, we know that it is big business and special interests that steer our politics. Have you had a chance to read "The Big Short" by Michael Lewis? It meshes well with the report you mention here.

If the average American hasn't figured out by now that BIG business controls our government than they have had their head in the sand or have been in a coma all their life. This is nothing new it just is on a larger scale financially  than back in the day.

We need term limits and caps on corporate campaign donations.  That is the only way to control this.  Way too much corruption.

Great interview! It's hard to believe, but it's so commonplace that it's time people started paying attention.

Todd - What's amazing is we continue to support "our side" while the pillaging of America continues unabated. Thanks for the book recommendation.

Laura - yes, we have a corporate oligarchy.

Rob - Abramoff thinks that term limits would make matters worse, his suggestion is to bar any congressman or congressional aide from working for ANY lobbyist in ANY capacity.

Donnie - Right, how do we consider ourselves the greatest democracy the world has ever known, but allow for this type of corruption?

Nick - Thank you.

I agree, both sides have abused the system and this needs to be changed. No one's hands are clean and term limits and limits on corporations and unions, lobbyists - caps and disclosures must be in place. We in real estate know how important disclosures are - how can Congress and the White House get away with this for these many years in criminal.
