Just Before the Storm

Today while driving home from my open house, I noticed the sky was getting dark and purple. I took a few pictures as it was just beautiful. By the time I got home, I knew the storm was near as the birds were on alert, chirping loudly and getting settled in for the hard night ahead. Birds may be small and certainly not as smart as humans but they sure sense when the storm is coming.

I love the way these tiny finches showed up on the tree tops.

And this bird up on the chimney top was squawking as loud as possible like he was warning the others "Storm a coming."

Within a few hours we will have a torrential thunder storm.

Hi Kristin -  Indeed it's quiet amazing how birds and all critters have built in radar.  Knowing when to hunker down and prepare to ride out a storm.  God takes care of all his creations.

Hi John,

Yes it is amazing how the creatures know what they need to do to feed, mother their babies, and protect themselves from predators or natural hazards such as rain, wind, or snow. I have a lot of palm trees at my house and the birds make nests in the handles of the palm fronds near the base. I guess that gives them the best protection.

Hi Joni,

No I did not have a good turnout at all. Only one guy and it was when I was leaving plus he was just a looker. So I am not sure open houses are good since the holiday shopping has already started. We need the rain too as we have been in a drought for years too.

Have a nice weekend and I am looking forward to your Christmas contest.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the nice compliment and have a great weekend. What was that little animal in your picture? It looked like a little puppy but I guessed it was a kitty?

Hi Tony,

Yes it seems like Mother Nature does a good job of taking care of her little creatures. They hunkered down just before the storm hit. They like to hide in the fronds of the big palms at my house.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks so much for stopping to comment. I hope you enjoyed my pictures. I am a big animal lover and especially like to photograph birds. These sky pictures came out pretty nice with the shadowing effect on the birds. The purple in the sky made it very interesting as well. Have a nice Sunday.

Hi Jeanean,

I always like what you say about my posts. It is very sweet of you. I try to tell the viewer the story as I saw it. I typically put 4-5 photos of the 10-15 I shoot. Once in a while, 1 photo is good for inspiration and that stimulates imagination but story telling takes more than 1 photo.

Have a nice Sunday too. Are you having the storm yet?

Kristin,

This is an excellent post and the photos are incredible. You're very observant. I agree, we can learn a lot from the tiniest creature on earth. Birds have a voice that more people should pay attention too. Your photos and your story is truly inspirational.

I am in awe when I see things like this in nature. I am grateful for people like you who appreciates it and tells the story as well as you do!

Today, you are the Voice of Nature. That's why I had to click - SUGGEST!

I appreciate your comments and thanks for the compliment of featuring me. I used to have to tell the story in detailed reports and even though I have switched careers I still try to make the viewer see the story.

Have a great week!

Kristin,

Great shots. Love the top one. Dogs also notice - maybe the change in air pressure. :)

Thanks for stopping and commenting. The top one has the nicest cloud formations and colors. Probably the TV going off, no one getting up and turning on lights and NO HEAT affected the dogs. They whined and keep running their claws on the mesh gate which makes noise. They knew I was an unhappy mommy.

Have a great holiday.

Hi Debra, I love birds so anytime I see birds and unusual weather, I love to try to get some good photos. They did seem to come out pretty nice. I love all the colors in the sky.

Thanks for stopping.
