"Washed along the sluice of time."

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

"Washed along the sluice of time"The days grow short and darkness looms
O’er what was once fresh buds and shoots
Now petals loosed and drifting blind
Are washed along the sluice of time.

                 (R. Weisser 2011)

As the last leaves succumb to the rake, it’s hard to believe that the holidays are already upon us. The transition from Fall to the holiday season is always an easy one. It is a delightful albeit often a bittersweet passage.

There are plenty of activities to plan and lots to be done in anticipation of the upcoming festivities.

Every year it seems that there is not enough time to do all that we wish to accomplish. But that’s part of the hustle and bustle that just makes it all that much more exciting.

I’m already looking forward to enjoying as much of the holiday spirit as I can.

And I plan on enjoying it together with all of my friends and loved ones!

Richard .... I like your ease in to the holidays. We have a local Rotary radio/TV/Internet auction the next three nights of Thanksgiving Week and the college kids coming home for Turkey Day and stopping in to visit with friends at that event help let me know itis Thanksgiving. Holiday Traditions, never fade memories need a routine you build in, look forward to. And as for those rakes and leaves, get a windy day and a power mulching lawn mower to make tiny organic fertilizer in no time. Although smell of burning leaves triggers more thoughts of late fall, getting ready for winter too. Let's all sample the pumpkin pie at Barb's house...meet Rocky up close and shake his, er paw too this Thanksgiving.

Good Morning, Richard... Each year I age, I seem to enjoy the season more and worry less about what doesn't get done - When you really think about it - it's Friends and Family that's important...

Richard, what a lovely sentimental piece of poetry.  Your post goes a long way towards rehabilitating this "recovering retailer" back into the mood of welcoming holidays.  It is so refreshing to read about the holiday feeling without consumerism or commercialism sneaking blasting its way in.  Thank you so much for that.

Good morning, Richard. Nice poem. It is with irony, we start the year thinking how much time we have. At the end, we always wish we had more...

Richard, After all the raking, I'm just happy the leaves have finished falling.  No more mowing, no raking, and hopefully a nice stretch before snow becomes an issue :)

Richard,

You are a poet!  Nice job.  I had no idea you wrote poems, but as I read comments above, I guess I'm a little behine on your talents.  Very nice.

Nicely done, Richard.  Time passes much too fast these days.  I remember my parents telling me, "Wait til you get older.  The days just fly by."  Well, they were right.  Christmas will be upon us in no time and we'll be talking about Spring!

Richard, the best part of the holidays is spending time with friends and family.  All the preparation, shopping etc. just makes that time more special.
