Brutal Atrocities at Penn State..and that is not even the WORST of the Story

Everyone is probably familiar with the atrocities committed by members of the Penn State football coaching staff against young children. There is little debate that atrocities against children are the worst of all because children cannotdefend themselves and are not armed with knowledge sufficient to understand the emotional and mental harm of the heinous acts being committed against them.

No one would consider such ascts as acceptable...probably even the pedofiles themselves realize this.

However, there is an underlying major concern regarding these events that has niot been widely reported.   For days, tgeh campus of Penn State erupted in violent protests because the beloved "Joe Pa" was fired. Technically, he resigned, albeit with a gun to his head.  He announced his retirement at the end of the season prior to the public disclosure of the heinous events. He probably knew what was coming.

The campus erupted in violent protest. Busses were overturned, fires started..BECAUSE A FOOTBALL COACH HAD BEEN FIRED!!  Paterno admitted knowing what was going on and he made lame efforts to report it.  His tacit acceptance of this is despicable. He could have and should have done a lot more to prevent this from occuring in the future. Yet, he did nothing.

The future generation of America turned to violence in this heart wrenching time.  The students were ignoring the atrocities and expressing misplaced loyalty to a dark figure (I have NEVER seen him laugh or smile). Would they have done this if Joe Pa was routinely 3-6??? Yes, he produced winners but now his actions and inactions have caused severe damage to many young children. He is not a hero. He is a BUM. Football is never larger than life and I could tell many stories of improper events by Joe Paterno and his staff as a result of my tenure as a certified NFL agent,,,

The actions of the people at Penn State are sad, but pretty typical, and not terribly surprising. Society frequently seems to have it's priorities out of whack.

Paddy,

I don't think I can comment on this and remain polite.  Football victory over the damage done to children?

Paddy -- Though it appear from some reports that Mr Paterno did what what required legally, it doesn't make sense that he kept the guy on the program for years after that -- the moral ethics of that just do not make sense.

Paddy, I lived (here in Tallahassee, Florida) through the Bobby Bowden Era.

In the early 1980's, I watched then-unknown Florida State University beat every major Powerhouse College Football Team in America.  I saw Nebraska fall in the final minutes.  I saw Dan Marino cry like a child when he failed to score a touchdown againt FSU.

The Florida State University Seminoles had 14 straight years of at least 10 wins.  FSU finished in the top 5 each of those 14 years.  We won 2 National Championships.

Coach Bobby Bowden lost his edge, as he grew older.  FSU faded from its Glory Days into a lackluster team.  In January of 2009, Coach Bowden retired.

Bobby Bowden left Football because his day had come and gone.  He is Legendary, and regarded as a Role Model, and as a Hero.  The Field at our Football Stadium is named for him; there is a Bronze Statue of him on the FSU Campus.

Joe Paterno was also Legendary.  But he harbored a deep and evil secret.  Protecting the most despicable predator, the child rapist.  He knew what was going on; he "reported to his superiors", knowing that they would not jeopardize a $100 Million Football gravy train.

Instead of Glory, Joe Paterno goes down in infamy.      How sad...  but how Just.
