Shop Small in Delray Beach (or Your Local Community) This Saturday November 26... and You’ll Be Adding Your Support to Our Small Business Owners!

The Friday after Thanksgiving is known in the retail world as Black Friday,  a day whendiscounts consumers are willing to line up before the crack of dawn for the opportunity to go elbow to elbow and shopping cart to shopping cart for the deal of the season.  All of your major big box stores and retailers consider this as the kickoff for the holiday shopping season.

For the second year, American Express has promoted Small Business Saturday as a way of calling attention to the many small business owners in our communities who rely on our support.

Facebook, Twitter and Google have joined in with tools such as free Facebook ads and other marketing apps to help small businesses compete.   If you go to the Small Business Saturday site a business owner can get E-Marketing materials, signage, and help creating a Facebook Fanpage and other tools.

That’s not all,  you, the consumer,  can register your American Express card and if you use it this Saturday at a small business, you’ll receive a $25 statement credit on your Card account.

Pass this information on to small business owners in your community as well as your friends.  This economy has been hard on everyone and you have only to take a drive along Federal Highway in Delray Beach or some other major streets and see “Store Closed” signs.

Bloggers... let’s show our support by writing some localism posts not only for this weekend but throughout the year highlighting your favorite businesses.   It’s important for everyone in the community that these businesses continue to thrive... after all, these same business owners also buy houses, shop at our local markets, buy gas, buy clothing, and many other local services.

Good morning Kathy,

What a great idea..we really try and shop with our local merchants because you are right the local business owners buy homes, shop at the grocery stores, buy gas etc. We are all in this together and need to help each other out and keep this economy from faltering.

Debbie- I'd rather shop the local stores this weekend than fight the crowds at the big box stores.

Dorie- we've been trying to frequent our local deli all summer to help keep it afloat through the summer (our off season).  It benefits all of us!

Conrad- well many thanks for coming over and glad Roger sent you over.

Barbara- thank you for stopping by!  I can't wait to see your post on your local businesses!

BARFF- thank you sir!

Cathy- wow... I love that !  Many thanks and can't wait to hear about some of San Antonio's favorites.

BarbaraT- I can always count on you and I've given you a break on the gator posts.( but better keep your eyes open)

Joanna- I think all of us do try to shop locally and help the small business owners.  It pays off for everyone.

Cindy- I didn't know about this until I heard something about it on television.  It's a great thing to do year round!

John (the Q)- it is and if we don't support them, we can't complain if they have to close and go elsewhere.

Kathy.  I am so glad everyone is at least thinking about supporting our local businesses.  They could use the boost this holiday season and the best part is that the money stays local.  That means more real estate business for us in the end!!!

Mickey- thank you.  I began as a lurker and very occasional blogger but now it's become a habit.

Belinda- Absolutely!  Everyone is affected by this.  When I was in Houston and the oil and gas industry took a nosedive, it totally had an effect on all of the local businesses.

Connie- Good for you... I was afraid it would get lost in the blog.  Now I have to remember to do some shopping on Saturday!

Hi Kathy--congratulations on your 500K milestone.  That is an amazing accomplishment and you have certainly worked hard for it.  As to your post today, I am totally in favor of this idea.  There are way too many small business owners that are teetering on the edge and they are a vital part of the community and need our support.
