Holiday Basket Drive, Encinitas California

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential California Realty

The annual Holiday Basket Drive is underway at the Community Resource Center, Encinitas, California.   This outreach provides critically needed food, blankets, jackets, and more for over 1,400 local families in need! Wondering how you can change a life this holiday season? There are so many ways to participate, it is easy!

How Can You Help?

  • Donate food, clothing, gently used bikes, toys, blankets, sweaters, jackets, baby and toddler items, teen gifts, and senior gifts
  • Sell Turkey Tickets, just $10 helps a family in need.
  • Assemble baskets
  • Distribution of baskets and gifts

The outreach area is located at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  You can check their volunteer schedule and donation time frames at their website at www.crcncc.org

As we head into the holidays, and especially with the economy down, so many families are struggling and need a hand to help them up again.  Although it seems resources are slim and time is precious, even just a simple donation or office drive could make all the difference.  My daughter and I will be there, so perhaps we will see you.  (If you have a young person under 14 that would like to assist, go through KidsKorp, a network of children that work with community projects) or contact the CRNCC directly and ask them about the family tours and children volunteer opportunities available.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!

Yvette,  It is so hard this year.  We are doing our best and trying to give more time this year too.  This year our girl scout troop organized a canned food drive and the young girls did a great job!  It is a good time to be teaching them the value of contributing, even a small amount!

We do need to dig and give more this year than ever before. I heard our food bank is still 2000 turkeys short.

Hi Kym. Putting together those Thanksgiving and Holiday baskets is a worthy cause for those in need in your area. Best Wishes for you whole Out Reach Program! It's amazing what $10 will mean for one family.

Vickie - it has been a tough year. I like the turkey tickets for just $10.00, people like thinking they have donated a large ticket item! Jerry - it is so little, it is amazing. My children are old enough now that I can give them each alloted money and spend it at the store for the baskets. They can see cost of food and how it impacts how much you have to eat. Then they can actually go sort and fill baskets with the food they bought! I love that they can see the whole process. Joni - thank you so much!

So for those people going to the Holiday of Lights which is now open, they could take a few goodies and possibly drop them off at the Outreach Area.

I just finished donating a bunch of used towels and such to the El Cajon Animal Shelter. Next is donating used clothing items that don't fit anymore (the ravages of weight that come with old age).
